@LFCMike If you’re gonna quote me, at least mention my name pal.
You’ve been gone for a few weeks, missed out the collapse of this season. You’re back the day after a disgraceful derby performance (in which you’ll no doubt have been screaming and ranting about last night) straddling your high horse, yet again. I’m not commenting on your reasons to be away, but done come in here with a cocky attitude against the Liverpool fans who have been here, contributing to the forum through the last few weeks.
The likes of me, gonzo & Mel have made plenty of comments, some of them reactionary. Well, I’ll speak for myself on that part, because I know that I let my emotions run away a lot when I watch us play. I won’t, however, apologise or come down from some of the comments I’ve made on particular players not being up to scratch.
Nunez has let us down, big time, with his complete lack of finishing ability. We would be in a much better position if he had even a hint of consistency. Diaz has next to no end product for all his efforts, Salah has outright called it a day on this season. And I won’t even start on the defence, and I dare you to try to defend them after the last few weeks. Been fucking woeful.
Klopp is on his way out in a few weeks, and THIS is how he goes out. With a squad of playing having dropped off big time. Barely putting in professional performances. It’s been a disgrace from a lot of them.
Of course I was angry last night, even draw against that lot in any circumstance is enough to do that. It was probably gone before last night though if we're being completely realistic.
I don't believe there was anything cocky about my post, I think i provided a pretty balanced view of why things might have gone the way they have.
Nunez's finish last night was awful and he's fast running out of chances, even with those who have been the most patient with him.
I never believe that players down tools though, as you've suggested Salah has there. Certainly not in the situation Liverpool have been, players wouldn't do that. There's much more to it than that simplistic view. Fitness, maybe the weight of expectation of the fairytale ending for Klopp or inexperience of these situations (obviously not the case for Salah) are much more likely reasons for this drop off. Keep using extreme words to describe them though.

I don’t think it’s throwing toys out the pram to want players like Nunez and Diaz out. Nunez in particular has probably been the player we have that’s damaged our title race the most. If he could put away 1/5 of the chances he’s wasted, we’d probably be sitting pretty. He’s just not improving - he’s got many strengths but his weaknesses are as weak as ever.
Not wanting us to persist with Nunez, Diaz and Gakpo isn’t wanting most of the team sold. It’s wanting rid of 3 players that just aren’t good enough.
Wasn't necessarily aimed at you, even if I do disagree with your opinion on those players to a degree.
The previous page mentioned 'the entire lot of them' being a 'joke', 'fed up with the lot of them', 'mass clear out' were some of the phrases used. How is that not throwing toys out of the pram?

Genuine question - do you think Klopp's announcement of leaving Liverpool mid-season was the right thing to do?
It was literally about to be leaked which is why Klopp announced it when he did.
As for some of the posts from Liverpool fans in here, talk about throwing your toys out of the pram. Last night was really poor but throwing words like 'disgrace' around about this season and talk of mass clear outs, I don't get it. We've fallen off a bit of a cliff the last few weeks, why I'm not sure. We got through the period where we had loads of injuries really well and you sort of expected us to kick on more when we got some of those players back but it hasn't happened, maybe some of them have been rushed back, I dunno.
This season was always meant to be a transitional one and few expected Liverpool to be in the title race with a month of the season left. They've fallen away at the wrong time, just like Arsenal did last season but it's a learning curve. Look how much better Arsenal are at this point compared to the same time last year. There's not many left from the side that won the league with Liverpool so this is a new experience for many of them.
I still think the new manager has a really good base to build from. Certain people going to extremes again though wanting most of them sold.

You're embarrassing you. Your club is a billion pound in debt

Okay, fairs. Do you think Salah should have went off today? Surely, we have a better chance of putting the game to bed with him on the pitch.
I don't know. They have all the info on the players fitness etc. wouldn't have been an issue if we'd have seen it out or put the game to bed in normal time like we should have done. Wouldn't have wanted him playing 120 minutes either though would you?

Why is he playing 90 in the week then? That made zero sense either.
Klopp explained that. He was going to bring Salah off but Clark got a knock
-
Don't think Gakpo is the level of the other four but he's still decent.

Salah coming off really puzzled me, we don’t have another game for a fortnight and we needed another goal.
He's just come back from injury, obviously being careful with him after playing 90 in the week.

Haven't seen much of Liverpool this season, but the impression I have is that the lack of a realiable source of goals ,other than Salah, could cost them in the Premier League race.
We've got 5 players on 10+ goals? Scored 3 there today, no idea how we've lost that. They're fucking shit.
-
Great to see Clark get on the scoresheet. Of the teams that are left in, i dont mind who we play. I want whoever is the weakest but they're all pretty similar. Leverkusen have struggled through their tie but would give us a good game so probably want to avoid them for now

Any chance Gomez gets back into the England fold? He's been pretty great for us this season - he's played in 4 different positions this season and not looked out of place in any of them. Probably a useful sort of player to have in any squad and he's got the experience of going far in cup competitions as well as needing to be consistent enough to be playing regularly at a team in the title race.
Reports are he's set to be named in the squad. Well deserved but ffs, don't want him near it at this point in the season

Hmm, I think they're still pretty strong overall. Think they'd beat Arsenal over 2 legs.
Yeah I don't think Bayern are that much worse off where they normally would be in terms of points in the league this season are they? Only a ridiculous run of from from Leverkusen sees them well off the pace at the top

Obviously, I want Arsenal to crash and burn at the final stages, but need them to stay in this competition for as long as possible so that it can hopefully affect their league performance.
Glad to see Porto out. As a neutral they are a shit watch. Like Lucas said, it’s no fun having defensive sides at this stage in the competition.
Hopefully Arsenal and City draw each other in the quarters

TNT had to use an image of Klopp lifting the European Cup in their graphic saying Arsenal had qualified

Where would Chelsea be without Palmer?!
Ffs left him on the bench in FPL this week

What VAR has done is give referees an excuse to not make big decisions. Then they can hide behind the 'not clear and obvious' or 'it's a high bar to overturn a decision' lines for subjective calls

Did they ever show a proper replay of City's goal? Was convinced it went out of play before it came back in at the time

Playing devils advocate, do you believe this? Or is not Klopps brilliance getting such performances out of these players? Possibly a bit of both but I’m not convinced these same players would be performing like this without Klopp
Fair point, I suppose you only have to look at players who have left Liverpool under Klopp. I still think he's leaving a really good squad but yeah probably a bit of both

Van Dijk was top drawer. Bar one moment, I don't think Haaland had a sniff and the way he marshalled the defence and built Liverpool attacks from the back was key for them. There was one diagnal ball he played 2nd half which was unreal.
That City goal was geniusly worked. So, so clever and brilliantly executed.
The Macallister penalty was supurb when you think how long the delay was between the decision and the penalty being taken. Nerves of steel.
I actually think Klopp nearly ballsed up taking Bradley off and putting Gomez RB. Not sure if that was tactical, injury related or whatever, but it nearly lost them the game because when Doku came on, he had him beat each time. I'm sure a man of Klopp's character would have thought they would bring him on and I'd have thought Bradley would have dealt better with him.
Great game though, such an elite level the standard that was played at. Be good to see those two battle it out in the FA Cup final if it can happen that way.
Mad how people wrote Van Dijk off after last season. Even early this season there was people who had doubts. He's still just as good as before his injury for me. The one on one with Haaland was incredible,

We were brilliant but unlucky - but I’ll still take a point. Biggest thing was not losing.
I think despite not being more clinical, that second half was a very good sign. If we can dominate a side like City over 45 minutes we are very good team.
I think when you consider we had our second choice keeper and fifth choice centre back, it's an excellent performance. I was worried they'd target Quansah today but he was brilliant.
What a squad Klopp is leaving for the next man

Agreed. Said to my dad that it was either gonna end in elation or heartbreak, just felt like that. When Doku hit the post I almost died
A little poo came out when that hit the post

Absolutely criminal that wasn’t given. I hate them, every official can’t do one. All as fucking useless as one another.
We should have won that, we were excellent. I find it hard to criticise him after his effort today, but Diaz made a right mess of two golden chances. Still, it was absolutely imperative that we didn’t lose that game.
The first one he made a mess of, I think the second is just brilliant defending by Walker

I mean it's not like playing with 10 men. His all round play had improved loads this season and he's been good overall. Obviously his finishing is a real issue and he was awful all round last night but let's not be silly.
