He's on the list mate but like I said, he's very very low priority. He's pretty much only going to be on there because he's a connection they have and because the list is huge and doesn't just consist of 10 managers. Like you said they have their pick of plenty of far better managers, but Gerrard is on there because these connections count, whether he gets approached is another story and I don't think he will even be enquired.

You've gone from it's inevitable and a big possibility to him being an emergency option in the space of about an hour!

Liverpool aren't in a situation where they'll need to appoint an emergency option, they've got months to sort the next appointment. It would be a different situation if Klopp had announced after the last game of the season he was leaving and it was more difficult to sound out other managers who were already planning for next season.

There will be some managers who think it might be difficult to follow a figure like Klopp but there will be plenty who have the self belief that they could go in there and continue his work and even be better. I'm not saying that's possible at this stage but just looking at how plenty of top managers will be thinking.

That is what I am saying, if all the options fail he'll be an emergency option.

All I said was he's on the list, but in football things can happen that switch plans around. It's very, very unlikely. Don't rule it out entirely. Like I said, databases are massive and have several phases. The only reason I can see Gerrard being considered at all is if their agents fail them which at this level of football I don't see happening.

He won't be on the list. Liverpool are in a very good place squad wise and in terms of the foundations already in place for a new manager coming in. They have their pick of plenty of top managers.

    Gerrard isn't going there.

He's not good enough as a manager and I very much doubt he's even a reliable option for them. The only link is that he was a Liverpool legend on the field.

Liverpool manager with their stature is the hot ticket for summer now. There'll be plenty of options and they have huge pulling power given the finances, facilities, top class players, assets etc.

Why do you make things about you every time? 'this is my strong suit in football'. Stop it. You just said 'I am not an expert in how Liverpool operate' xD. Which is it?

None of us are on here apart from the likes of @Mel81x @LFCMike @Rick @Dr. Gonzo

Exactly this. Liverpool will have the pick of almost any elite manager not currently in work and pretty much any manager in the tier below that, whether they're in work or not. A manager who was sacked by Aston Villa not long ago and is now struggling in Saudi won't be under consideration at all

I keep seeing different names linked with taking the job next and honestly it makes me depressed.

Yeah same, I don't really want to think much about it tbh. The club have known since November though so if they don't already have someone lined up along with a new DoF then I'm sure they're already a fair way down the road of making a decision as to where they will go next.

I'd give almost anything for the league title this season to give Klopp the parade he deserves. Obviously winning anything this season would be great but I think the league, after what happened in 2020, is what we'd all want. Going to be incredibly difficult to pip Man City but we can only hope that the team use this situation to give them something a bit extra over the next few months.

Devastated, to be honest. I really thought he had gotten a second wind, his energy lately seemed the highest it’s been since the title win.

The best manager we have had in my life time, it’s not even close. Wish him nothing but the absolute best for the rest of his career. We know he won’t be managing in England again, he has said as much. Hopefully he takes a decent break and comes back to more success. Can’t fully process the whole thing right now, it’s came out of nowhere so I’m not doing him justice with what I’ve written.

As for who is next? Has to be Alonso for me (as long as Bayer don’t go to absolute shit in the second half of the season). He’s a legend of the club and has shown himself to be more than capable. The job he has done with Leverkusen since he took over last season has been excellent. After him? Probably Di Zerbi from the names being bandied about.

Yeah pretty much the same really, proper knocked me for six when I saw the notifications come through. I also thought it looked like he was re-energised and was only thinking recently he will surely stay a bit longer beyond his current deal as he's in the process of building this new team.

I suppose it almost makes sense that he's decided the end of this season is the right time though, with a younger, fresher side ready for a new manager to add bits to rather than having to make wholesale changes when they first come in. It certainly seems that way when he talks about not wanting to do it after last season and wanting to get the club back on track.

I'd have the same concerns as @Ciceroover Alonso. I know he's doing brilliant this season but he's doing it at a club where the pressure to win is nothing like what it would be taking over the Liverpool that Jurgen Klopp has built.

I don't think they're helping Everton's case - but I also don't think the appeals will be giving what fans think any consideration, so I also don't think they're hurting Everton's case.

From an Evertonian fan perspective, directing the toxicity that had built up over recent seasons in the fanbase towards the league seems to have really helped Dyche build a siege mentality in his side. With that in mind, I don't think the fans are doing anything wrong by directing the justifiable anger they should have towards both their owners and the league into something that is directed less at the club and more at the league. I think mentally it has done something for the players and at the top level any sort of mental advantage you can get, imo, makes a pretty huge difference to how a season can go.

And I think the points deduction was very harsh tbh - it's harsher than Portsmouth's deduction for going into administration. And for as bad as things are financially at Everton, they're not quite as bad as what happened at Portsmouth. And despite all clubs agreeing to rule changes, I think it was entirely reasonable for Everton to think the ongoing investigation would continue using the same rules it was using when the investigation started - especially as they were working with the league to try to get into full compliance. In that sense, I can agree with the "made up rules" statement.

I just think they're making themselves look a bit silly. The more you read, the more it looks like they haven't got much of a case of being hard done to. I've said previously that the total of the deduction was a bit harsh but everything else it doesn't seem they have much of a leg to stand on.

  7. Possibly could have had one or two more to make it less of a nervy ending. Having said that, I thought we saw it out almost perfectly after their goal. Don't think they had a sniff after that apart from the long range effort that Kelleher pushed wide.

The strength in depth of this squad is really good to come through these two ties, together with the wins at Arsenal and Bournemouth, when you look at the players we've had missing.
