  1. Did anyone hear about this? Rudy Giuliani gave his big legal update press conference on how he was going to take back 4 states for Trump. Only problem, he booked the wrong venue so ended up giving the press conference in front of Four Seasons Total Landscaping, a small storefront directly in between a sex shop and a crematorium, instead of the Four Seasons hotel.
  2. If no other states change colour from here on in this will end up an exact reversal of the 306-232 EC tally for trump in the 2016 election.
  3. Get ready for a good fucking tweet
  4. I disagree with this. The US has left the table on climate change, global trade, world health and many other matters. That has significant effects on many countries. Australia is currently getting slayed by China in trade. They have banned imports of our beef, and thermal coal, and now wine, largely for our standing by our alliance with America, and America is an empty chair at the WTO right now. Then there's the influence of the role of the US president. Obama was a worthy role model. Trump is the antithesis of that. The influence this has on people spouting absolute shite is enormous. The lessons of trumps success are very damaging to the motivation of those who strive to do good work and believe that facts matter, and that experts should not be dismissed out of hand with an eye roll. The world's most powerful democracy is failing right now and that is significant and alarming.
  5. Biden likely to win the popular vote by more than 4% to win a nail-biter election. In Australia that would be an enormous victory and result in a very lopsided house of representatives Every future Democrat will need to do the same if they're to win. However the bigger obstacle is the rural bias in the senate. Two senators each for California and Wyoming, etc. A higher qty conservative states than liberal ones add up to push the median elected senator to being a fair bit more conservative than the average American. Only real way to fix that is to balance it a little better by making DC and Puerto Rico official US states.
  6. Murdoch is the common denominator. 1. Using biased and poor quality newsmedia to erode impressionable minds instead or expanding them. 2. Fomenting a solid audiencew who are so poisoned in their views of the left that they will never switch sides 3. Getting the politicians to then do whatever he wants them to
  7. The difference between Arizona and Pennsylvania
  8. The whole American system is such an arm wrestle. The democrats are still recovering from the single term Jimmy Carter followed by triple Reagan/Bush.... That period stacked the supreme Court conservative. That stacked court awarded the 2000 election to Bush and McConnell holding out judge appointments followed by trump election has entrenched massive partisanship throughout the judiciary at multiple levels... The 2016 election set the democrats bank around 20 years from getting the judiciary back into balance
  9. I don't believe Sanders could ever win an electoral college election. Red states are too polarised, particularly over social issues and personal rights. If you look at the democratic candidates who've been able to win in purple and red states they look nothing like Bernie.
  10. I always thought it was more the staggering prevalence and influence of the Jewish community through America's financial, intellectual and political elites.
  11. I don't see the link. Jewish voters went 75/25 for Biden abiding to exit polls. Evangelical Christians went 80/20 for Trump. I think trump won orthodox Jews but Biden win the much wider cross section of the Jewish community.
  12. I really don't understand how evangelical Christians can split 80-20 for trump. It just seems so counterintuitive to me how a follower of Christ and the new testament could feel that trump is more aligned with their beliefs than the actually religious Joe Biden....
  13. Biden apparently favoured to overtake trump in Pennsylvania. Arizona becoming doubtful for Biden.
  14. The VP enters the fray although the Dems have Joe Manchin as a very trump friendly senator who would be a wildcard tie breaker
  15. Democrats implored their voters to vote early or vote by mail, because of the Covid 19 pandemic, which most democratic voters take very seriously. Republicans lobbied their people to vote on election Day.
  16. I don't think you could possibly have scripted this election Day to play out in a worse way for triggering everyone's 2016 "oh no it's happening again" anxiety.
  17. We have Medicare in Australia. Everyone has it. You can pay extra for private health insurance which will cover you for dental and physio and get your access to a private hospital, but everyone has Medicare and can visit doctors for free, get medicine for cheap, have every issue covered and not be out of pocket much at all. We looked at Obamacare thinking it was pretty light on in comparison.
  18. Mate Biden Obama and Clinton aren't very left wing, if you placed them into Australian politics they may even sit in our conservative party... The Sanders/AOC wing of the Dems is quite extreme but the establishment Dems have not been giving much ground to them.
