My first game was Souths vs Newcastle at the ANZ with about 10k-15k in there. It was the worst sporting experience in my life. Alternatively I watched Souths vs Roosters there in the final game of the regular season and it was a sell out nearly. Great for finals and games of that importance, not so much the rest of the season.

Ive not been to Leichardt yet so will probably go on September, they're playing there next Sunday but I'll be pissed up in Bondi after a fun run.

Manly is nice and probably tough to beat. I wanna go to Belmore, spend a day in Cronulla and go to Kogarah too. I wanna go see the Cowboys but I'm living in Sydney which make things difficult. They're playing Brisbane at home on the 31st so might sneak a long weekend in and fly up there, didn't go to Townesville before so would be a good excuse.

Whatd you make of the NRL compared to Super League? Ignoring the difference in quality on the pitch.

I love the NRL. I don't see enough of it anymore but we've got the subscription to Premier Sports, who show all the games.

The coverage is lightyears ahead of what we have. They have legends of the game doing the punditry, we have a bloke who, as a winger, once went a whole season without scoring a try, and two blokes trying to be funny (and failing).

The big thing I notice is the intensity of matches. More often than not, games are pretty even and the levels sides play at over in Australia on a near weekly basis is phenomenal, especially when you consider some are playing State of Origin and mid-season a Internationals too.

Na it's generally just open to the public, think Souths have one pre-season there a year "Return to Redfern", pretty sure they train there too, top right hand side still has their crest, but the rest of the year they play at the ANZ which is a soul destroying stadium both in location and attendance to capacity ratio.

Wests do as well for some odd reason, it's basically in Parramatta. I guess the suburban grounds don't bring in the dollar but for me the best place to play NRL games out of the suburban grounds is at the Allianz...only problem being there's no public transport other than a bus and what will be the light rail in a few years and the Allianz already has three tenants in Roosters, Sydney FC and the Warritahs. Ironically the best supported of the three are Sydney FC.

Theres lightyears difference between AFL and NRL at the moment, Sydneys over crowded but personally I just don't think the funding is in it for them to stay at their home grounds so the NRL want government funding to turn the ANZ into a primary NRL stadium and the government want to split resources between the ANZ and the Allianz. However less entertaining AFL maybe, the MCG and Etihad are positioned perfectly and they get the crowds.

Yeah, I was reading somewhere a while back that playing at their traditional homes, teams have to pay for all the necessary things like stewarding, policing, catering etc while at the ANZ, the stadium provides all of that stuff without a cost so it's basically all money related.

It's sad because it's a shun to traditionalism but also fans look lost in the ANZ and the atmosphere suffers as a result. I loved watching Wests at the Leichardt Oval a few years back because it was quite an old fashioned, intimate venue.

    Little walk into Redfern today:

    Does anyone play there?

My understanding was that it was/is the Rabbitohs training pitch?

I'm in Canada for a month and I've done nothing since I've arrived. Good time to write more footy articles I guess.

I think tomorrow is the first time I'm leaving the house for more than an hour on this trip.

Whereabouts? I've only really gained a bit of a knowledge about Canada since Toronto started playing Rugby League, but it's a place I'm definitely going to visit in future.

  5. Got a displaced fracture of the metacarpal (a bone in my hand). Did it a couple of weeks ago and had a second x-ray yesterday, where they confirmed there was a break. Originally, they were worried about the scaphoid bone near my thumb but that was clear.

Been in a splint for nearly two weeks and have to keep it on for another two-three weeks.

I don't know of any TBH. All companies that I know that do such are paid.

Still some I see advertised in London. Or they say they'll cover travel and lunch but nothing else.

    Don't listen to smiley.

Most internships nowadays are paying, and some, like Google, are very lucrative.

Unpaid Internships should be illegal. They're effectively slave labour.

Found a few coaching internships in New Zealand. I might go for it while I'm on college break for the summer (our summer).

Has anyone ever done an internship?

Black people did slave labour in the US till it was abolished. That's basically the same thing as an internship.

  9. There's a website called rugbyleaguevideos that has full match highlights from thousands of games going back years, if that is of interest to you.

I'm just getting into Rugby League mate. I know a bit about Rugby Union as I watch all the World Cups but little about league.

In college, they want me to get into other sports other than just football. My family has always been rugby fans (my father lived in South Africa some time) so that would be my second choice.

And yeah, I'm aware that Featherstone are a league below but I did not know that they are a part time side so that explains the ease of this.

Ah, fair enough. I don't know what your level of understanding of the game is but I'd suggest watching the State of Origin games in Australia and the NRL (the elite level of Australian RL) too.

We also have the first transatlantic team in sport involved with RL in the shape of Toronto Wolfpack, who play in our bottom division in the UK, League One, which is made up of sides from areas where the game isn't as developed as other areas, such as London, Gloucestershire, Coventry and Hemel Hempstead. Wolfpack are a pro outfit in that league, so it's no surprise they're ten from ten in that league.

  11. A Peruvian RL fan? Weird but cool.

Remember that Featherstone are a League below Leeds and also a part-time side, so this will be a pretty large score line.

Been playing football tonight for my 11 a side team. Only had Sammy Ameobi playing for us. Had a lad who plays for Peterborough as well. I am not a good player at all and neither are the team so no idea how it happened.

That little weasel-y looking fella who looks like a smackhead? Marcus Maddison?

Despite all the critisicm the English team gets it still baffles me the amount of supporters that turn up for England games even against the likes of Macedonia,San Marino etc.

Cheap tickets in areas of the ground, people go for the "day out" and I believe that in order to apply for away tickets, you have to attend a certain amount of "home" games.

I think there would be more support for the England side if they wasn't a London club and moved their games around the country. We have stadiums in all parts of the country that could accommodate International Football and would restore something of a national identity to the side. Also, Friday night games are utter shite for anyone above Watford Gap.
