With long term injuries to Swiss midfielder Gelson Fernandes and to the Spanish midfielder Lucas Torro, Frankfurt are in urgent need to add some more players to their midfield. I agree, he's not an amazing player, but he does a decent job as a ball winner and he will add some depth to our injury stricken central midfield area. For €500,000, Frankfurt have bought him for as cheap as chips. As you suggest, this transfer suits all parties. RB Leipzig have freed some space in their stacked squad, Frankfurt have gotten themselves an experienced and reliable midfielder and Ilsanker himself knows that this move will give him much more playing time in view of making the Austrian national team squad for Euro 2020.
