Ukraine take an early 1-0 lead.

@Michael

Yeah, Yaremchuk keeps up his great form. It was a lovely goal as he chested the ball to control it outside the area and then unleashed a dipping shot to score past the Kazakh keeper. An away win in Kazakhstan is just what Ukraine need under their new manager. His starting line-up is quite different to what Shevchenko used to select, but it seems to be working so far.

  • The title was changed to Group D Matchday 4-6 (1st September, 2021)

Well Kazahkstan v Ukraine finished 2-2. However, Ukraine really should have won away to Kazakhstatn, as they dominated most of the match. They hit the woodwork about 4 times with dangerous efforts and they forced the Kazakh keeper Pokatilov into numerous saves.

Yaremchuk's early goal was an absolute beauty of a volley that dipped over the keeper and into the net. While it was also nice to see the youngster Sikan score in the 3rd minute of injury time on his national team debut. Everyone thought that his goal was the winner, only for Valiullin to score in the 5th minute of injury time to seal the 2-2 draw. In fact both Valiullin's goals in this match were quite similar, where he attacked down the right flank and shot at goal from an angle, beating Pyatov at his near post both times.

Thankfully for Ukraine, Pyatov's appearance as first choice keeper is only temporary, as he has seen better days. Injuries ruled out the impressive keepers Buschan and Trubin, while Real Madrid's Lunin was ruled out because he has Covid. Ukraine dominated both their World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan, but could only come away with a draw in each match. There will be disappointment all round in Ukraine with this result, as Ukraine have drawn all their group matches so far and as a result, they have 4 points from the 4 games they drew.

The score is still 0-0 between Ukraine and France in the 1st half, however, Ukraine have arguably just had the best chance of the match so far. A cross form the corner found its way to Yarmolenko, who shot at goal and forced a save from Lloris who blocked the ball. But the rebound then fell to the teenager Zabarnyi, whose shot flew over the bar from close range.

It's been an entertaining match so far, with both sides showing attacking intent.

Young midfielder Shaparenko scores with a superb strike from outside the area to give Ukraine the lead! Yaremchuk made a great run down the right flank in the build up play and beat the full-back and delivered a cross into the area for Yarmolenko. Yarmolenko laid the ball back for Shaparenko outside the area and the young midfielder then scored with an unstoppable effort.

A superb team goal by Ukraine and a crucial one as well.

Ukraine 1-0 France

It finished Ukraine 1-1 France and Ukraine draw their 5th World Cup qualifier in a row. They've literally drawn all of their 5 group matches so far. They need to find the winning touch, but it was a decent enough performance this evening against the French.
