Michael 1,117 Posted October 9, 2021 Share Posted October 9, 2021 Well Yarmolenko gave Ukraine the lead, as he collected the ball outside the penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable swerving shot past Hradecky and into the net! Teemu Pukki then equalised for Finland with half an hour played. However, only 5 minutes later Ukraine retook the lead through their Benfica forward Yaremchuk. Yaremchuk controlled Tymchyk's cross in the penalty area, before shooting on the turn to score Ukraine's second goal. Despite missing key players Zinchenko and Malinovskyi through injuries, this is a must win game for Ukraine, if they want a good chance of qualifying. Ukraine are undefeated so far in their group, however, they are yet to win a game so far as they have drawn all five of their group matches. Therefore defeating Finland away in Helsinki this evening is of immense importance. Ukraine's performance in the first half looked very promising and they created many more chances than Finland did. Ukraine will want to hold on to their first half lead or even add to it in the 2nd half, as the 3 points are vital for them tonight. Michael 1,117 Posted October 9, 2021 Share Posted October 9, 2021 Well in the end the score finished Finland 1-2 Ukraine and no further goals were scored in the 2nd half, although there were several decent chances created, especially from Ukraine. Shaparenko had a great effort in injury time saved by the excellent Hradecky. But it was Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk once again who are the heroes, as they scored two crucial goals for Ukraine to earn them this win. This win was made even more important after Bosnia & Herzegovina had beaten Kazakhstan away in Astana by a 2 nil score-line. Bosnia remain in 3rd place on 6 points, while Ukraine maintain 2nd place and they now have 8 points.
