  1. Very sad and he was so young as well. I guess the details as to how he died will come out soon, but this is a real shock for German football. R.I.P.
  2. Bayern 3-1 Hoffenheim Leipzig 2-1 Frankfurt Freiburg 2-1 Union Mainz 1-1 Wolfsburg Köln 1-1 Heidenheim Augsburg 1-2 Leverkusen Darmstadt 1-3 Dortmund Bochum 2-2 Bremen Gladbach 1-2 Stuttgart
  3. I can't really argue too much with most of your selections here, apart from Karel Poborsky. He had a good Euro 96, but apart from that, he kind of had an up and down career. His time at Man Utd wasn't a great personal success, although he did have some decent seasons at other clubs. However, I'd say that players like Tomas Rosicky, Patrik Berger, Jan Koller, Pavel Kuka, Jiri Nemec, Vladimir Smicer, Milan Baros, Petr Cech, Tomas Skuhravy, Zdenek Nehoda and Antonin Panenka were all arguably better than Poborsky.
  4. This is exactly the point that I wanted to make. The reason that Keegan is pretty much forgotten by a lot of people, is much less to do with the fact he didn't play in the 1990s or play in the Premier League. Because Bobby Charlton was much older than Keegan, but he was always regarded as an English footballing legend, arguably our best ever player. It's more to do with the fact that Keegan played at a time when the England national team of the 1970's were quite frankly a bit shit. We failed to qualify for both the 1974 and 1978 World Cups, as well as the 1976 Euros. Keegan only ever played in 2 international tournaments for England, namely the 1980 Euros and the 1982 World Cup. In the former tournament, England failed to even qualify from their group. Although Keegan played in both of these tournaments for England, he failed to score a single goal. I think shining for England and playing well at a major international tournament for England, goes a long way in helping a player gain that legend status. Keegan was no doubt an excellent player at club level, where he achieved a heck of a lot of accolades. But it's clear to me, that his lack of success with England is one of the major reasons people tend to forget him when thinking of the great England players through the generations. Although I am too young to have watched him live, I know many of the older people in my family who rave about how good Keegan was as a player. Some of the Youtube clips I've watched of him also seem to confirm how talented he was. He should definitely be classed as one of England's best ever players.
  5. Really? What about the 1974 World Cup winning team and the 1990 World Cup winning team? That 1990 squad was stacked with quality players who would go on to play for many more international tournaments.
  6. I was just reading about his poor health only the other day. But the news that he has died today is very sad. Beckenbauer was a World Cup winner both as a player and as a manager. He was a true legend and arguably the best ever German footballer. R.I.P. Franz Beckenbauer
  7. Very true, but I don't think that detracts from Werner's quality as a player, it's just that Leipzig have so many good forwards at their club right now. Werner has scored 24 international goals for Germany and 112 goals at club level during his career so far. At 27, he still has plenty of further successful years ahead of him and for Tottenham to have the option of buying him for just £15.5 million at the end of the season, I reckon that this is a great deal for them. If Werner was at a Premier League club, I doubt he would be sold for anything less than £25 million. Spurs have the option of buying him at the end of the season below his actual market value.
  8. Turbo Timo should do a good job at Spurs. I think this is a steal for them, they are getting him on loan and then have the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season for £15.5 million. That's nothing for such an experienced and quality forward like Timo Werner. The only reason he wasn't getting much playing time at RB Leipzig, is because Openda has played superbly and is currently one of the best forwards in the Bundesliga. Furthermore, Werner had additional competition in attack from the rejuvenated Poulsen and the rising young star Sesko. Spurs have done very well to sign Werner in my opinion and I think that he will meet expectations at the club.
  9. Yeah, Brentford have had terrible luck with injuries this season. But looking on the bright side, it's given many of the younger Brentford players more playing time and some valuable Premier League match experience. Norgaard is indeed an important player for you, but if Damsgaard can return to the great form he showed a couple of years ago, he could be an excellent boost to your team. Your club is a very well run club and I think that if Brentford continue to be managed well, they have a bright future in the Premier League.
  10. It's a bit of a surprise that an elite club like Bayern are going for him, but I can imagine that he would be a useful squad player for them. I am sure Kane would have played his part in making this deal happen. Dier has had his critics for some erratic displays, but lets not forget that he has also had some great performances during his career and he was the best player for England at Euro 2016. I am sure Bayern will get the best out of him and that he will no doubt settle in quickly at Bayern with his mate Kane playing there.
  11. Well Bryan Gil has just come on for Lo Celso, not sure if that will make much of a difference for Spurs, but we shall see.
  12. You guys should have won this match with Wolves having a man sent off so early on. I still hope Brentford are the team to go through in this tie though.
  13. What's wrong with Arsenal today? They should be playing much better, I hope they improve in this 2nd half.
  14. Leicester City are leading away to 2nd in the table Ipswich Town. A win here this evening for Leicester City will propel them 9 points at the top of the table, ahead of 2nd place Ipswich Town. It was Mavdidi's goal in the 1st half that gave them the lead. Leicester City are playing very well away against a very strong Ipswich Town side. Ipswich Town 0-1 Leicester City
  15. Jota made a decent contribution when he came on. I always like how clinical he usually is in front of goal.
  16. What do you guys think of the Liverpool starting line-up? It doesn't look like the best possible Liverpool starting 11, but Klopp is obviously still gambling on them winning against Burnley.

    Boxing

Exactly, he's never been the best boxer, but it's Wilder's ferocious knockout punch that he's used to finish everyone he's fought(except for Fury), that's given him this fearsome reputation. But has his ability to utilise that punch and execute the finishing blow at the top level of boxing finished? Parker won a huge points victory over Wilder today, with Wilder unable to land anything significantly damaging. Parker is a top boxer, but not an elite heavyweight. Joshua easily defeated Parker on points several years ago and Parker has also lost to the likes of Dillian Whyte on points as well as being knocked out by Joe Joyce. After this defeat, I dare say that a lot more heavyweights will be less afraid of taking on Wilder and his powerful punching power, because they will fancy their chances of doing a similar job to what Parker did on Wilder this night. I also think that this defeat makes Tyson Fury's 3 wins over Wilder look less impressive. Although Fury getting up from the canvas after that powerful punch from Wilder in their first fight will always be admirable. I have to say I was very impressed with Joshua's win over Wallin. Joshua was always the favourite to win, but for him to do a demolition job right from the start against a very respected boxer like Wallin was very impressive. Joshua won every round and he simply outclassed Wallin with his boxing skills and his punching power. This has to be one of Joshua's best performances of his career, it was a very impressive win. If Wilder were to fight Joshua, I think we all know now that Joshua would be a clear favourite to win. Moreover, Joshua against Fury would also now be a 50/50 fight, whereas before tonight's fights, Fury would have been the favourite. It was also good to see Dubois win his fight against Miller, although it was kind of expected.
  18. Aston Villa have had most of the play in this 1st half against Sheffield United, but it's still 0-0.
  19. The best possible start for Man City, as Alvarez scores for City in the very 1st minute of the match. Man City 1-0 Fluminese

    Boxing

Mate, Joshua took 7 rounds to KO Helenius. Wallin is a much better boxer than Helenius. If Joshua KO's Wallin in the early rounds as you suggest, then I will be very impressed. However, somehow I feel this will be a much tougher fight for Joshua. I mean Joshua should win, he is the favourite, but I suspect that Joshua will probably KO Wallin in the later rounds or he will win on points.

That's just it though, I don't think that Parker will manage to keep away from that big right hand cannon of Wilder's for 12 rounds. So I see him falling and losing before the 12th round finishes. The Joshua v Wallin fight will probably be closer in my opinion. If Joshua gets a KO in that fight, that will be a bit of a statement, because Wallin has never been KO'd in his career, not even in his only loss as a professional boxer against Tyson Fury.
