I think the results were more important than the match endings given what people have had to endure for some time with Brock, Roman, Shane, HHH etc consistently coming across as immortal. It looks like they're reeling out the old fossils again for the next Saudi Arabia show too.
-
I think the results were more important than the actual match quality this year given what we have been subjected too in the past couple of years. We have had an inactive champion for pretty much two years, the Becky Lynch movement gathered up some pretty good momentum for some time (although they tried their best to make it confusing) and I can appreciate why the Kofi story has become so engaging for many others. It didn't need classics, it just needed creative to get things right. Plus, given the way the crowd reacted the following night. I think Vince McMahon succeeded in making the hardcore Brooklyn crowd look ungrateful.

FOX have stated they want a more authentic show when Smackdown goes there and with the show in Saudi Arabia coming up I just presumed "business is business". Seth Rollins getting one over him on raw the show before wm is never a good omen. Credit to the producers though, that was a great WrestleMania. None of my underwhelming predictions came in because none of it was underwhelming. A 9/10 for me. If it wasnt botched roll up finish i would possibly be suggesting this was the greatest Wrestle Mania ever.

Predictions for tonight: Brawn Strowman to win the battle royal in some crap spot with the SNL guys. Somebody who actually needs to win the womens battle royal will win to appease the competitors. I hope for Sonya Deville. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins to win (& lose the titles some time next month). Bayley & Sasha to win and be long term champions. Anybody but Rusev and Nakamura to win because Rusev is on some mad and unnessecary PPV losing streak. Triple H to win to satisfy his ego. The Miz to win, but Shane does something to satisfy his ego. Rey Mysterio to win because they seem to be betraying Samoa Joe as the worst tough guy ever when it matters Randy Orton to win because hes WWE and AJ Styles is TNA. Finn Balor to win because hes a demon. John Cena to cut off Baron Corbin and wrestle Kurt Angle in an enjoyable 20 minutes. Roman Reigns to win (& ends any chance of this generation creating another main eventer any time soon). Brock to retain. Crowd get pissed. Daniel Bryan to retain. Crowd get pissed. Becky Lynch wins main event to prevent a riot.

'NXT Takeover' was amazing. Pay per view of the year contender I reckon. The Johnny Gargano story over the last 18 months/2 years ranks up there as one of the best storylines WWE have ever told. Certainly with The Yes Movement story for the best of this decade. What a culmination that was to see him win and have his moment with Candice and Ciampa. I watched G1 Supercard on Saturday over the hall of fame. I was really enjoying the show until Enzo and Big Cass showed up. I'm 100% sure by securitys reaction it was a work which pissed me off more. If theres ever two things that dont scream 'Ring of Honor' its "was that real?" Segments and the tag team of Enzo & Cass. They've also signed The Beautiful People ten years after they were beautiful. On the other hand the NJPW stuff at the garden was brilliant. I've seen all the videos of the Hall of Fame incident. Whilst Dash Wilder is being hailed as a martyr I think people are overlooking the punches Travis Bourne initially threw at the bloke. The guy must have had a death wish to attack a legend in a career defining moment who is now 61 years old, a cancer survivor and whose previously had a stroke in front of a load of wrestlers. Oh I watched United We Stand which was a combination of TNA, Lucha Underground and a load of other companies. Production was poor, nothing noteworthy really happened, and TNA have for some reason bought back Rob Van Dam. Eli Drake (who is hopefully NXT bound) seems to have pissed off a lot of people by not participating in an inter gender match and has now been released. I dont think Don Callis ever really realised what they had in Eli Drake to be honest.

Other than Becky Lynch I can see a lot of mediocre endings for the fans too. I wouldn't be surprised if Brock wins given it looks like he may be staying, there's a Saudi PPV next month, and Roman has returned. Vince would love another Brock / Roman encounter at Wrestle Mania. Nobody else will but he will. Fans wouldn't give the scriptwriters credit for a Drew / Seth double at Wrestle Mania but they'd sure moan if they both lost. I'm secretly hopeing for Bryan to beat Kofi. I was a bit gutted we didn't see him win the title cleanly as I felt robbed of what would have been a fairytale story, but he looks really comfortable as the focus of the show. I hope he retains and the superstar shake up gives him new challengers. Also the fact Kofi doesn't have a chest annoys me. AJ/Orton I'm looking forward too. Randy Ortons done a really good job building it. Again, fans don't want to hear it but Randy winning from a story perspective as the WWE guy for 15 years makes sense. HHH/Batista can get fucked as can Miz/Shane. The inevitable HHH/Shane match at WrestleMania 50 bores me already. I'm not really feeling Kurt Angle's retirement match. The buzz of him returning wore thin when he kept wrestling one off matches too frequently. I'm sure Becky Lynch will main event Wrestle Mania and will win. It's quite integral that happens really. It's nice to see the scriptwriters riding on a wave of momentum. The difficult part will come when she's been Champion for a couple of months maintaining that momentum. People love the chase of a face but there's not many faces they get behind as Champion for a long period of time. For the foreseeable I see 'A NEW ERA' after Wrestle Mania with brand switches, then a 'NEW ERA' with nxt becoming a two hour third brand to compensate the growth of aew, and then a 'NEW ERA' when smackdown draws a bigger audience when it moves to fox.

Triple H and Shane McMahon looking immortal and taking spotlight EVERY year is just embarrassing. Especially when the roster is so bloated with talent. The culmination was Triple H winning the title at the Royal Rumble a couple of years back, along with Shane McMahon crushing all the momentum The Miz has built in the last couple of years with that tag team. On a side note Ronda being a 'c u next tuesday' is probably best for her given she was one in her latter days in UFC. The fans hate her, the fans have a weird obsession with girls that show attitude, it makes sense. The one punch thing at Fastlane though was meh. At least do something else after.
-
I agree with Danny. At a time when the roster is bloated and the wrestling world in general is booming they should be giving everybody maximum opportunity to showcase their talents. Raw, Smackdown and NXT were all really good this week. I know it's impossible to keep up that many returns but here's hopeing they keep the shows strong going in to Wrestle Mania.
-
I do find myself sympathising with him a lot recently I went on Twitter the other week and people who want the atittude era to return were legitimately complaining about Alexa Bliss being in a towell. Sometimes you just can't win.

Rusev Day was popular but then again so was Damien Mizdow. There's multiple factors in play as to why certain movements get halted and others like 'The Man' get pushed to the next level. Factors we more than likely will never become aware about. He got a title chance out of his run and is the only 'modern' superstar to get in the ring with The Undertaker alongside Roman and Wyatt. To me that should still be looked at as an achievement. Sure, he didn't beat AJ Styles for the title but so he shouldn't because AJ Styles if far superior to him.
-
Im pretty sure I read Bray was waiting to get medically cleared but theres so much nonsense out there i dont know what to believe. -- Who do you hold back to give more opportunities to Rusev and Chad Gable? I like them both, but do I want Rusev to get a push ahead of Samoa Joe? No. Do I want Chad Gable to a push ahead of Finn Balor? No. They're extreme examples, but I feel as long as they're regularly on TV they're getting the exposure they should get at the minute. Rusev pay per view record is pretty horrendous but at the same time he's wrestled for the title and against Undertaker in the last year. The Ascension, Tyler Breeze, Sin Cara etc know there role. They're enhancement talent. If they are unhappy they can always try their hand elsewhere. Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Cody Rhodes etc have shown it can be one step backwards to go two steps forwards. Tye Dillinger has asked for his release and could be going that way. CJ Parker was destined to be a jobber 4+ years ago but he took the gamble and look at Juice Robinson now.

All you have done there is list a load of guys who could easily be cut from the roster or are popular midcarders that should be midcarders because of the talent on each roster. There's only a handful of people there not injured that I think are severely mistreated. Nakamura is one, Good Brothers are another (They surely must be thinking of AEW), Sanity deserve more air time. The rest are where they should be or can be disposed of. Of the injured list, aside from the company's two major players, you're only really missing Owens, Zayn and Wyatt. The only solutions going forwards for the bloated roster is to have a future endeavours session or to begin treating NXT as a third brand. Which is wjat they may be gearing towards with all this recent exposure of NXT talent on Raw and Smackdown. Call back EC3, keep DIY and co there. Extend it to another hour. Keep the small time feel but let it grow at a rate that AEW is growing at. If AEW want to sell 10,000 tickets regularly, then move on from Full Sail and do the same. It wouldn't surprise me if they're doing the latter. WWE have a tendency to be very alert to what other promotions are doing. One recent example being they pretty much destroyed ITV rejuvenating British wrestling by signing all their talent to NXT UK.
-
I hope they never go back there to be honest. You have got areas deprived of live wrestling shows that would create a great atmosphere, then you have a place that sounds like a crap French dessert that cannot be bothered. As for these call ups i am fully behind them. The last batch were in general rushed and pretty pointless. The only criticism I have is that I would rather have seen Ricochet in NXT for another 6+ months so that he could be champion and own the brand like Finn Balor did before making an impact. It's all getting a little confusing. We have something like ten 'free agents' now appearing on all shows, plus the women's tag team titles that will be defended everywhere. Hopefully there will be more clarity after Wrestle Mania.

I can't watch suits without thinking of Rab.

What on earth must the girl sitting beside him be thinking.

I think NXT will, and should, lose Johny Gargano, Tomasso Ciampa, Velveteen Dream, Aleister Black and Shayna Baszler as an absolute minimum in the next couple of months. I would be in favour of Undisputed Era going too if they hadn't been booked so shitty for their talent. It's a developmental brand after all. They still have the likes of Matt Riddle, Ricochet, Keith Lee and War Raiders around to carry the mantle in to the next calender year. What's depleted them is how WWE have panic called up a load of people who still would have benefited with another year at least on the NXT brand. EC3 being the notable example, he hasn't really had any noteworthy contributions to NXT, but could have been a major player a long with Ricochet and Matt Riddle after the next wave of call ups. Lacey Evans may be talented but she has displayed nothing in NXT to suggest she will be anything other than a jobber. Then there's Otis will now be nothing more than a modern day Festus. As for NXT Takeover last night I thought the show got progressively worse as it went on. War Raiders against UE set the pace for what looked like a classic Takeover, Johnny and Ricochet put on a classic and then we had the final two matches which weren't as good. The ending unless there's a surprise this evening was all a bit weird.

I'm pretty sure Finn Balor is just there to temporarily appease people. Unless it's on last. Then I'm really excited. I just hope to God that Rollins puts an end to this Brock Lesnar as Champion experiment in March. It is so boring watching the men on Raw knowing they're effectively fighting for nothing.
-
ITV made a mistake there I reckon. They had a real good chance to set precedent with their new tv deal here and they've missed it.
-
Wrestle Kingdom delivered. All Elite Wrestling is confirmed. How do WWE respond? They exploit the death of Mean Gene Okerlund as a chance to bring Hulk Hogan back to Raw. You honestly couldn't make it up.

Went skiing and snowboarding in Val De Saire as part of a Club Med holiday. Club Med branches in the UK couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery but the entertainment staff at their hotels save them big time. The snow was perfect for a week too. Pretty sure I won over about 20 overseas Palace fans too during the Manchester City game. There was an absolute tit in his early 20s before the game bragging about their bench before kick off. Type of fan that supported Chelsea 5 years ago but supports Citeh with a London accent. Im quite reserved watching Palace ever since the FA Cup final but he really hit a nerve. He walked off shortly after Luka scored.

Just finished reading The Secret Footballer : Access All Areas. Dave Kitson sure doesn't like a lot of his ex managers. His bitterness that comes out in the book at times gives it away very heavily that it's him. The most interesting thing to come out the book could be Callum O'Dowda's career development.
