  1. was watching Toronto vs NYRB last night. After the first goal went in it was end to end and Justin Morrow was on a hat-trick. Was 11/1 for him to score his 3rd goal and he got it in stoppage time xD. Only had a quid on it but nice small win. Also had over 3.5 goals in the game before it started as there had been that outcome in Toronto's last 5 games and NYRB's last 3 I think.

Let's go, let's go! Today's the day of miracles. Lewis to crash out, and Seb to roll up the field from behind.

well one of them happened and it was a superb drive from Vettel. Streaming up 16 places from the back of the grid and nearly getting a podium towards the end was no mean feat. Good defence from Ricciardo to withstand the pressure from Vettel, mind.

Great race from Verstappen to celebrate his 20th birthday too!

Have the police taken/taking action against Stokes or even the people who threatened whoever it was with a bottle?

    yeah he's been bailed

Seems to be a lot of those 'Paedophile Hunters' catching people near where I live and exposing them on social media. They caught a bloke who owns a clothes shop yesterday and surprise, surprise the shop was covered in graffiti and eggs and flour this morning.

I don't get them Paedophile Hunters. Alright, they do a good job catching people who would have otherwise gone undetected but I find them a bit "look at me, give us praise" when they expose people on social media, is there actually any need? They could quite easily collate all the evidence and just hand it to police rather than going looking for likes on social media.

There's definitely shades of trying to gain fame through it, they don't need to record it all and it's definitely not a deterrent.

One geezer caught one from my hometown, when the Police turned up and asked him to move away from the guy he caught he started going mental at the Police...don't call them if you don't want their help.

agree with this. All well and good they catch these pricks but the motive seems to be skewed - as if they're doing it for their own benefit as opposed to actually getting a pedo off the streets.

Apparently police don't like that they try to take the law in to their own hands as well and it can affect their ongoing investigations too in some cases.

I can sympathise with him a bit here because I've seen the devastation a glass bottle can cause.

It's not something I've posted about before because I try and keep things private on here but also because I'm not really looking for attention or sympathy and because it sounds a bit bullshitty, though I can assure you it's not.

In June, a 71 year-old relative was smashed over the head with a bottle in a bar for allegedly bumping into someone at the bar (he didn't and CCTV has proven it). The bouncer of the bar threw the 48 year-old out and upon trying to apprehend him, the 48 year-old still had the neck of the bottle in his hand and he stabbed a 39 year-old relative with it, what I thought at the time was his neck. I've genuinely never seen as much blood as that and I honestly thought we were going to lose him and it turns out that we weren't far from it, the police were panicking and urging the ambulance to hurry up at one point.

Attacking people with a weapon, or even threatening to, is awful and I can totally understand the anger it would cause and I'm quite glad the lad(s) got a bit of a pasting whilst also being disarmed.

In this Stokes' case, I don't know how much he can get away with as 'defending himself' because once the attacker has become unarmed and the weapon is at a "safe" (that's a subjective term) distance away from everyone, I'm not sure how much he'll be able to use as a defence.

bit in bold was I was trying to aim at, too. Whilst I can appreciate the danger and threat a bottle can cause, there's a time where Stokes could have stopped in his own attack. Especially when trying to be held back. Obviously being drunk didn't help! (not saying you can't ever be drunk but certainly influenced his own actions no doubt).

  6. anyone seen the Stokes incident/footage?

Throws numerous punches even when being helped by Hales to calm down and hold back. The guy came at him with a bottle but even when he was 'unarmed', Stokes carried on.

Now, if someone came at me with a bottle I'd be raging and would throw a few myself back at him. But he seemed to continue, drunkenly of course, even when the other guy seemed to back off or back down. Any random member of the public would be looking at jail most likely for GBH. Can't help but think Stokes will get away scot-free (maybe a fine or suspended sentence). No doubt he'll be omitted from the Ashes though I reckon.

  7. Freddy Shepherd, ex-Newcastle chairman, has died aged 75.

Former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has died at the age of 75, his family have said in a statement.

The multi-millionaire was involved in a number of regeneration projects through his company Shepherd Offshore.

He sold his stake in the club to current owner Mike Ashley in June 2007.

He was the subject of a Sunday newspaper expose in the 1990s in which he and fellow director Douglas Hall were recorded calling female football supporters "dogs".

The family statement said: "Freddy Shepherd, former chairman of Newcastle United and chairman of Shepherd Offshore Group and Triple S Sports & Entertainment Group, sadly passed away peacefully at his home last night.

"At this difficult time the family have asked that their privacy be respected."

Born and bred in the North East, Mr Shepherd was the owner and managing director of the Shepherd Offshore Group for more than 40 years.

He set up the Triple S group in 2008, but is best known for his influential role at Newcastle United.

A director of the Magpies from 1992 until 2007, he served as vice-chairman to Sir John Hall as the club finished Premier League runners-up in both 1996 and 1997.

He also played a key role in appointing Kevin Keegan as manager and signing Alan Shearer from Blackburn for a then world-record fee of £15m.

The former Newcastle striker posted on Twitter: "So sad to hear my great friend and former @NUFC chairman Freddy Shepherd has passed away. I owe him a huge debt for bringing me home. RIP."

Mr Shepherd's family paid for a £250,000 statue of Shearer to be erected outside St James' in September last year.

A short club statement said: "We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Newcastle United chairman, Freddy Shepherd. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Mr Shepherd and Mr Hall's comments, which were reported by the News of the World, sparked a furious reaction from fans and fellow board members, who urged them to resign.

Both stepped down in 1998 amid threats from other directors to quit if they refused to go.

Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes said: "Freddy was an extraordinarily successful self-made millionaire who never forgot his roots in the east end of the city.

"Along with his brother Bruce he worked tirelessly to create jobs on the North Bank of the Tyne, bringing industries and skills back to life.

"He was a great entrepreneur and business leader, very forthright in his views and never shy to express an opinion, a real Geordie at heart."

agreed. do prefer their older stuff (Hot Fuss and Sam's Town) but do enjoy listening to them still.

The stadium is built in extremely tight land, it's basically a triangle inside train tracks. Which creates the corners you mentioned, one of those corners can't be extended on because of the train track that essentially curves into it. The corner on the opposite side will be cut off by a public road that's being created, so those corners won't be filled in.

The completion of the stadium essentially relies on Wilmott Dixon who will be putting flats up on the land, originally there was no road behind the north stand. The stadium has been moved 3m south to allow the road to be built, which will allow the flats to be built at the same time as the stadium so they can get people in them and them sold/rented out ASAP.

It's gone to single tier I believe because to make the stadium smaller structurally would make it easier to build, to we lost the two upper tiers behind the goals and the capacity that came with them.

sounds like getting to and around the stadium will be quite busy with it being so compact and the stadium being squeezed in. What's the plot of land it's being built on?

  10. 5 minutes ago, Danny said:

So as of not so long ago the club made some alterations to the stadium, have reduced the capacity to 17,250 from 20,000. The stadium has gone from being single tiered across the sides if the pitch and doubled tiered behind the goals to being entirely single tiered. There have been some less interesting changes made to the neutral but here are the pictures so far...the inside of the stadium still subject to change however the general structure has been settled upon (though not yet passed off by LBH).

why has it gone to single tier?

I like the look of it though. Looks like the main stand (top left pic) has room for expansion with those 'folded down' ends. Could easily join up next to/over the adjacent stands.

Looks like it'll be close to the pitch as well which should make for a good atmosphere and it appears to have kept some traditional feel to it with 4 separate stands as opposed to overly-modernised, futuristic, bowl-like stadiums you sometimes get these days.
