Yeah that was the summer of Moshiri throwing one last pile of money at the whole thing. Signed Ancelotti, James, Allan, Doucoure and Godfrey. About £80m in transfer fees that summer and an extra £30m a year on the wage bill between them. Apparently the club want £15m for Godfrey. Anything over £10m would be great in my opinion. He's a squad player and he could leave for free in 12 months.

Genuinely forgot that match was on the tele for about 20 minutes and didn't miss anything. I'm not arsed about England really. It's something to join in with if it looks like they'll reach the final but that's it. I don't say any of this from an emotional perspective. I just find it really incredible how far backward Southgate has managed to take this squad. There's as much depth and breadth of quality as any other nation in my opinion. They look like they've never played together or been coached in any way. Someone praised Southgate for changing the culture that has held England back for years which was a fair comment. On the evidence of this tournament though, it looks a lot like England reverting to type and that work being undone. If he does leave the job after this tournament, I really don't know that you'll even be able to say that he's left the national team in a better state than he found it (and it was in a really bad state). Unless there's a huge improvement, this tournament performance, the culmination of almost a decade of Southgate's management, is on track to be as poor as anything served up under Capello, Hodgson or any of the other failures. Could go on for much longer about the negatives of individual players but I'll leave that to others. None of them have shown more than a flash of quality and none of them should really be deemed undroppable at this point. The whole team is boring, uninspiring and ineffective. I think a lot of England fans would secretly be relieved if this campaign was put out of its misery in the next round.

Premier League to Review Recent Transfers
RandoEFC replied to Dave's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
Mate, there's no way that after last season, the way Everton wanted this story to be framed was "hey everyone, look at us exploiting loopholes, fuck PSR". That's just insane. Everton FANS will absolutely have wanted to interpret it that way so maybe that's where you're getting the idea from. There's just no earthly way that any club would want to attract that negative attention to themselves after the penalties Everton and Forest were hit with last season. -

That's a stretch. You made out like the clubs are boasting about it or at least actively advertising that they've found a way around the rules. There's an acceptance that these transfers have a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" aspect to them. I don't think clubs are daft enough to ask journalists to get a "fuck PSR!" narrative out there on their behalf. Well maybe Chelsea are that daft. I doubt Everton and the others want to draw attention to it. Paul Joyce is well connected but that doesn't mean what he reports is the clubs' preferred version of events. -

Which clubs have done that? -
Maybe!

He's been offered a new deal. Think he's just willing to see what his alternatives are before signing.

I'm surprised we asked for that much. Basically says unless you pay almost double his realistic value then we'd rather take our chances on the contract and risk him leaving on a free than have to find a way to replace him this summer.

Results - Spanish Grand Prix No predictions this week from @Whiskey. Qualifying saw most people pick up 5 points with Lando Norris bagging pole position, with or without Max Verstappen being removed from the results. @RandoEFC, @Stan, @MUFC, @Tommy, @nudge, @The Palace Fan and @OrangeKhrush were all on the mark here. The race saw a non-Verstappen podium of Norris, Hamilton and Russell. @MUFC, @Tommy and @OrangeKhrush profited most here, picking up ten points for having the two younger Brits in exactly the right place. @Coma was the only person to pick up 2 points for Norris anywhere other than 1st, while @DeadLinesman was the only person to predict Hamilton on the podium at all. Unfortunately, due to Ferrari letting him down, these were his only points of the weekend. @RandoEFC, @Stan, @nudge and @The Palace Fan bagged 5 points for Norris but were otherwise let down by Ferraris or Sergio Perez. This week's random driver was Logan Sargeant and once again we see one predictor hoover up all of the points themselves. @Coma's bold prediction of 20th place required all drivers to complete the Spanish Grand Prix and, for the second year running, they did. I probably would have given him the points if Sargeant was 20th via retiring first from the race to be fair. The bonus question was to pick which of Alpine, Haas, Williams and Sauber would score the most points this weekend. Alpine answered this question emphatically with a double points finish, faster than RB and Aston Martin as well as the teams included in the options. 5 points each go to @Stan, @Tommy, @MUFC, @nudge and @Coma for calling this one correctly. The updated standings see change at the top of both tables. A second consecutive low-scoring week for @RandoEFC sees @OrangeKhrush return to the top of the Drivers' Championship. @Tommy makes up good ground as this week's joint-highest scorer with @Stan keeping himself in contention as well. @nudge has overtaken @DeadLinesman while @MUFC, the second competitor to register 20 points this week, has gone from being well adrift at the bottom to being within 10 points of the top half of the standings. A miserable week for McLaren marks a big shift in the Constructors' Championship. This week's top scorers Red Bull obliterated a 23-point deficit and are now joint 2nd with the previous leaders. Aston Martin's solid haul of 27 points sees them edge in front. Mercedes remain in contention with 30 points. Unfortunately for Ferrari, they only get 1 extra point as insurance for @Whiskey's no-show as the rule is 1 point less than the lowest score so send your regards to @DeadLinesman for scoring just 2 points this weekend. We're on a triple header now so keep your eyes out tonight/tomorrow for Austria's predictions.

Onana will go. He wants to go, Everton want to sell him because they know the fee will be more use to them than he is under Sean Dyche, and there's no shortage of interest. We'll be fine without him.

Apologies, I've just seen you'd already said before.

In other news, Ashley Young has extended his contract with us by a year. That Swiss Ramble guy and a few other sources reckon we're now PSR compliant after selling Dobbin but Ornstein is claiming we still need to sell someone before the "PSR Deadline Day" on Sunday. Not sure who to believe but also honestly so fucking bored of it all that I don't care. In terms of sales, Branthwaite looks set to stay and is happy to do so. Onana would have been the ideal sale before June 30th but that isn't happening while he's at the Euros. Expect him to leave later in the summer as he is keen to move on and attracting interest. I don't think Dyche would miss him much either really. There was talk of another "PSR swap deal" for Calvert-Lewin going to Newcastle. Seems like that talk was nonsense now as Everton have put a price-tag of £35m which has scared Newcastle off. No bid was ever made. One year left of his contract, he has an offer on the table and hasn't asked to leave but he seems to be considering his options. Everton showing no signs of wanting to cash in on him. Minteh has been linked to come the opposite way but nothing advanced. We've agreed a deal for Ndiaye from Marseille for around £17m. Five-year contract to start in July once the details are resolved. Harrison rejoining for another season is good news as we could end up with a few other holes to plug yet.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind this area of the rules. Aston Villa can pay Everton £10m for Dobbin, with £2m up front and £8m in instalments. Aston Villa get to count that as £2m of outgoings and Everton get to count it as £10m of incomings even if it hasn't arrived in their account? It's almost as if they're actively inviting clubs to make deals like this. The rules also actively encourage clubs to sell home-grown players. I'm not exactly sure on the numbers involved but when Everton sold Richarlison for £60m, it didn't help as much for our PSR situation as selling Gordon for £40m, because we paid £40-45m for Richarlison in the first place and we didn't spend anything bringing Gordon to the club. Surely they should just simplify these stupid rules so that it's a case of what you've made over the past 3 years vs what you've paid out? All this nonsense about amortisation (I still don't know what that means by the way) just invites teams to exploit the grey areas like this. Yes, I know, "all the teams voted for these rules". It doesn't change the fact they're a load of shite. It's utterly farcical that the Premier League allows clubs to write the rules themselves anyway. Funnily enough, the kids in the school I work in don't get to vote on changes to the rules that they then have to follow.
