  1. I will nip around later and have a look at the Gecko, wee Connor is over the moon with his new pet and went with Denise to pick it up in our son's car and the rats are really friendly now and Denise had them out of the cage and they were running all over her, on her shoulder etc lol.
  2. @nudge The Leopard Gecko has arrived for wee Connor and it is very friendly so I am told and believe it or not our daughter has even got the wife stroking the rats inside their cage which I thought would be an impossibility once upon a time but as I said our daughter "Your mum is only stroking them inside the cage, see what she does when they are outside the cage running around lol.

True, I was lucky and ended up working for a security company that gave me my own building, I was there for 13 odd years and worked my way up from a security supervisor then joined the company that we did the security for as building supervisor then 4 years as an assistant building manager in charge of security etc, jumped from £4.00 an hour security wise to £8.00 odds as an assistant building manager, good old days but it's weird as I did long hours (12 hour shifts) and I would get out of bed in the morning around 04.30 and get ready for work and now I am retired (4 years now) I still wake up on the dot at 04.30 and it takes me a good fucking hour to get back to sleep lol.

I think the law will change sooner or later where you cannot have lone workers (security) on sites that are classed as bad, there are some security companies around (I won't name on an open post) that cost cut to save out money and stick some poor guy on a building site etc that is known to be a rough area. I have done a site around 2001 which was a student's residence site as a lone security officer and it was deadly, you had to watch your back when you were doing a patrol, a security officer I knew once had an old tv come smashing down nearly on his head from a students window 3 floors up, there was always police there at weekends as the students had the weekend off and a lot of them were high as kites or pissed as newts nearing mid-night lol. They eventually made the security on that site as mobile patrols by security supervisors but even they had to watch themselves, I hear that the place I worked at (students residence) has quietened down a hell of a lot nowadays.
  5. Knowing our eldest grandson he will stick bloody birds in the glass cage for his Gecko!! The daughter has had the rats out of the cage and holding them in her hand, she said they are not timid now and she will have them out of the cage more often I reckon as she does not like seeing animals closed up in small cages and Connor will have his Gecko running around I can bet you on that, Denise fed the rats some strawberries yesterday and she said they noshed them down, she has completely fallen in love with them. I know she will look after them and make sure Connor looks after his Gecko as she was in the RSPCA with me years ago taking care of animals, if me and the wife were not that old now we would have got some pets like a cat, I love cats.
  6. The daughter is getting the Leopard Gecko for our oldest grandson on Wednesday @nudge, bought the glass cage yesterday and it's sitting in his bedroom, our daughter said the room has to be at the right temperature for the Gecko so Wednesday will be ok by then, the 2 rats are settling in ok and I left the wife around our daughters this morning with the cage sitting right in front of her and she is trying to keep a straight face lol.
  7. You try telling the wife that!! This reminded me of Manuel in Faulty Towers who bought what he thought was a hamster but it was a rat he named Basil!! .
  8. Bloody hell, I got that wrong @nudge it's not a Gecko the daughter bought but 2 bloody pet RATS!!, she just sent me some photos and the wife is now really FREAKING OUT lol, I think the daughter better put them in the grandson's bedroom when she is babysitting, I suggested (joking) that I would nip around the daughters and bring them home so she could give them a cuddle and she yelled "DON'T YOU BLOODY DARE!!". The first one the daughter named Charamander which is hers and she said is timid, Kaiden's one he has called it K1. Charamander K1

We did a morning/afternoon and night shifts on rotation, 6 days, 12-hour shifts, sometimes you might have the odd Sat or Sunday off but it was a long drag but I did not mind a night shift as once you locked the building up you were on your tod and done 3-30 minute patrols of the building on the 12-hour shift and then just sit at the atrium desk manning the telephone and checking the CCTV, I love reading a good book and I guarantee I read a hell of a lot of books.
  10. The daughter is on her way home with it now, told her to send me a photo when she gets home and I might pop around and have a look...no wife with me, I wonder why?
  11. That's the daughter at the pet shop whatever and buying the Gecko, I said to the wife "What is she gonna name it" and she said, "I don't know and don't want to bloody know, she had better keep it in the cage thing when I am there!!"

Depending on the site a lot of buildings etc that I worked on before I retired never operated a one-man security officer as the building in question would be classed as a high-risk place for a lone worker so they would have 2 officers on duty, the building that I worked in for 13 years after 1900hrs all main doors were locked and secured, if any problems arose which was rare you would have a panic button you could press and the police would be on the site in minutes. I worked in a garage once as a console operator and after 2200hrs you would lock the main doors and served through a small window where people would come and buy cigs etc or pay for their petrol, the panic button would be right next to the window, you would get the odd 'Runner' as we called them that would fill up their tanks and shoot off without paying but we had CCTV all around where you would call the police and they would look at the CCTV footage and look for licence number etc.

I know how you feel, I did security work for near on 20 years before I retired, 12-hour shifts can be a long toil but I enjoyed a night shift I must admit.
  14. Looking forward to seeing it, the daughter said it will cost her a £100 but she doesn't care, she is thinking about getting a pet rat next and that WILL freak the wife out more.
  15. That's the wife freaking out, our daughter is getting a Leopard Gecko Lizard as a pet for our oldest grandson and the wife said: "He had better keep it in his bloody bedroom when I am around there!!!!"
