Danny Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Watched Godzilla: King of the Monsters last night and didn't realise that it was part of a wider MonsterVerse which I'm buzzing for, didn't think it was that great of a film mind but I really liked the 2014 Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island so hopefully they can bring the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong up to scratch, pretty sure the original director for Godzilla is on board for it. Bit annoyed O'Shea Jackson isn't in Godzilla vs. Kong, he was actually hilarious for the role and lines they gave him imo....also spoiler for below if you haven't seen King of the Monsters: Well pissed off the killed off Ken Watanabe, an interesting character/solid actor who could have provided some great continuity throughout the series if they manage to get more films out of these. In general there have been some great actors that they could have used throughout....seems like they're starting with Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler, but Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe would have been great had they not have been killed off when they were Godzilla 2014 Kong: Skull Island 2017 Godzilla: King of the Monsters 2019 Coming Soon: Godzilla vs. Kong - Nov 2020
IgnisExcubitor Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I haven't watched any Japanese Godzilla's movies. But of the ones from Hollywood, I enjoyed the original Godzilla (1998). It was campy, fun and had some interesting situations. The world was still new to the whole disaster porn movies with good special effects. So it worked. Fastforwad to 2014's Godzilla and it worked. Because of how it was made. There was sense of suspense to it, largely because how little of Godzilla they showed. The more recent flicks Godzilla King of Monsters and Kong Skull Islands were both steaming pile of shit. They didn't have that fun campy factor either to redeem themselves. I mean they even had huge enemies to take on Godzilla, but the movies were atrociously bad. Don't know how Godzilla Vs Kong is going to be. But since they are both suppose to be good guys, it won't be a surprise to see them team up rather than fighting each other. Also, it will have Julian Dennison in it, so that's a plus. On a side note if you are keen on watching monster flicks, then I would recommend Pacific Rim. The sequel was quite poor, but the first was a really good flick. I would also recommend Norwegian movie Troll Hunter, which is quite an entertaining monster flick.

Yeah I’ve not seen the Japanese films but the first Hollywood one is my favourite, was a kid at the time, saw it at the cinema. Was perfect for what it was and a shame they never got to make a second. I liked Skull Island personally, great cast, good storyline, effects etc. I think they’re going to insert some humour into the next one which was needed in the last, it’s an intense film from start to finish which can get draining at times so the more lighthearted relief the better. I liked what they done with Atlantis and Godzilla resting there, the suicide mission was one of the more interesting parts of the film even if I think they wasted a good character there
IgnisExcubitor Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Skull Island had great potential and a stellar cast and some interesting monsters. I just wish they had fleshed out the story a bit more though. And yes, the connection between Atlantis and Godzilla was interesting.
Danny Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Godzilla vs Kong is absolutely everything you want from this film and more, completely up there with the first Godzilla in the series and Skull Island, really picked up the pace with this film after the last Godzilla film. Apparently they’re looking into creating a Pacific Rim crossover which I’m not sure about, never seen Pacific Rim but it would tie in with the big things killing big things theme
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted April 6, 2021 Subscriber Posted April 6, 2021 Godzilla vs Kong is fast and in your face and for that alone its a good watch. I wonder where they'll go next with it all and I really hope we get some newer Kaiju that werent in the original series. They've done all the big ones but I really would like to see something fresh from them while they are on a roll.

I thought the first fight before they go back to HK was superb too. Of course it was a bit skewed but overall I think the CGI and cinematography really make this something you should watch in a theater because it would look fantastic. The final sequence during daylight would have looked nicer in the dark like the Kaiju fights in the first Pacific Rim because of Godzilla's breath charge as well as MechaGodzilla's red charge. Still, I can't complain because it gave me what I wanted in the end.
