Coppa Italia to Exclude Lower Leagues

Frankly, tone deaf at the moment. But ridiculous at any time.

It was only five years ago that Alessandria, a Serie C club, reached the semi finals.

It won't help the television numbers, as they seem to have as their motivation, as it's treated as a second rate competition. They have the final midweek! How are supporters meant to take it seriously when they don't?

That's like making the FA Cup just PL & EFL clubs, right?

I'm not sure of the culture or 'respect' the Coppa Italia has these days but perhaps the changes made over the years lends itself to not being that worthwhile for lower league clubs any more?

Doesn't this take away from funds generated due to the games that Serie C & D clubs get? Bit odd that you'd have a league cup and not include everyone.

The top eight teams from Serie A only entered at the last 16 stage, two rounds after the rest of the league. Combine that with the seeding and it's almost impossible for a Serie C or D side to have a match against Juventus, Inter etc.

Opening it up and having an English style FA Cup would help the lower league clubs immensely.
