This deal was all set to go through, Palhinha was in Munich. But was only going to be fully confirmed if Fulham signed a replacement. The German transfer deadline was at 5pm, and Fulham hadn't signed anyone, so deal collapsed!

From what I see Bayern fans comment, their most pressing need was a #6. So I find it pretty strange that a club like FCB leaves it to the last days of the transfer window to fill that gap.

By the way, isn't Kimmich a world- class #6? What is wrong with him?

It's a bit nuanced tbh. I think what the past few managers have seen and allot of fans is that Kimmich isn't positonally disciplined enough to be a true 6. Not only that but pairing him with Goretzka has been a bit of a disaster for the last season especially but probably closer to two seasons. Kimmich's strength isn't breaking up plays and he definitely likes to venture forward so the thinking is kind of two fold. Get someone like a true 6 like a Javi Martinez type and give him the freedom to venture and roam as he does best.

Just boggles the mind a little that a deal of this magnitude comes right down to the wire. It all sounds like this is going to happen just likely in January.

The full quote:

"It was a tough day for him, definitely, probably one of the toughest days of his life. He loves Fulham, he loves football, he loves to be with us. He had the fantastic season last season and he’s always a player that gives 100% for the shirt but he had a big chance to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world and he was really close. You can imagine the impact that has on a football player when these type of things happen. He is going to need support from all of us – the coaching staff, our fans and his team-mates"
