Subscriber Dan+ Posted August 18 Subscriber Share Posted August 18 Pretty much a done deal. Got to be honest I'm completely unimpressed again. I think he's OK, I think he makes a slight improvement, but are we seriously in a position to be throwing that sort of figure at him when we have such a dire need for goals and creativity? It just feels like another massive misallocation of money to me. Hopefully Storts can talk me into it but I think it's driven by Cooper's seeming obsession for PL experience and panic after yet another abysmal summer. I'm not saying he doesn't improve us but I think we could use that money a lot more efficiently.
Administrator Stan Posted August 18 Administrator Share Posted August 18 Extremely underwhelmed. Firstly, not a position as a priority we need to strengthen. Whilst it's a position I'd like to strengthen at some point, we should be focusing on players that are likely to get us goals and assists, not someone that is just going to sit in the middle of the park and recycle the ball or recover it. We need to be getting wingers or another decent attacker. Whilst they don't come cheap, if we're going to spend £20m+ on Skipp, you must think we have some other money about to fulfil those positions. In saying that, even if we didn't need wingers or a striker, I wouldn't be impressed spending that amount on Skipp anyway. I'd like to think we're selling Soumare, or have concrete plans to do so. Get him off the wage bill and cut our losses. Useless midfielder.

If they were to spend on a bit of quality in attacking areas as well as this then it would be a bit more reassuring but in truth I think we've just panicked because we're failing to get deals over the line. I was told the other day that the Lens game did spook the club somewhat which just reeks of the same sort of complacency that got us relegated two years ago. It really shouldn't have taken that to wake them up. The manager has been correctly pointing out we needed bodies. I'll forgive overpaying for Skipp if we've fleeced someone for Soumare but lets be honest, we haven't. Will be very interested to see what we actually do in the next fortnight. If we've seriously spent a large chunk of our budget on a player who is a marginal improvement rather than a substantial one, well, I've been through what I think of those making the decisions enough times. I stress I'm not entirely anti him as a player. My quite limited knowledge of him is he's a steady eddie type with a bit of tenacity. I'm fine with players like this but not for this kind of bloody premium. Worried that Cooper's supposed Premier League experience fetish is going to be quite costly. Storts
Skipp is a good player, in fact I’d argue he will be a very good player for Leicester and the level they are at now. I completely get your reservations over the fee and budget allocation, I know it’s been a frustrating summer, but purely in terms of the player i think youve got a good one, and to be honest its a shame he’s never had an extended run in the side with us. Don’t think you’ll find many spurs fans with negative things to say about Skipp. Hes pretty quick, covers the ground well, very good tackler, deceptively good at carrying the ball and passing is pretty decent too. He’s a fairly well rounded defensive midfielder, and I would say certainly has more to his game than Winks does, and as you know I also liked Winks.

Would you say you see Skipp as a defensive midfielder, or more of a box-to-box but perhaps more with a defensive mindset? Qualities you mention there all indicate towards being more of the former. And being good at tackling perhaps more aggressive and physical than Winks.

I do think my reservations are a lot more about the fees than the player themselves, but this is the cost of our idiot director of football which is something we're just stuck with regardless by the looks of it. I mean we're about to cough up £8mil for Jordan Ayew as well.
