Nothing more annoying than a fight scene at the end where the villain is lying on the floor covered in blood and you presume he/she is dead or sparko, the scene ends up outside with the hostages fleeing, the police arrive everywhere, rush inside the house/flat and the villain........is gone!!

Then a clip appears at the film's end with the villain starting a new life somewhere else and starting all over again......yawn  :coffee:

It's also annoying but you just have to accept it, if you read a book and then watch the film and it's nowhere near what happens in the book,

In the film The Dirty Dozen in the compound training, Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) orders Private Jiminez to climb a rope to the tower above, Jiminez climbs halfway up then freezes and refuses to move, Major Reisman then shoots the tope from under him and Jiminez scampers up the rest of the rope, in the book, that happened on the side of a cliff.

When I was younger, I used to prefer realistic, even tragic endings. Now, I just want happy endings most of the time, especially if I'm invested in the characters xD

Regarding what you've said about realistic endings. Have you seen Eden Lake? I think it's recorded in Wales and is worth a watch. It's violence but has way more to it, plus the ending is realistic and disturbing.
