  1. We´all gonna die, but we brazilians will be the first to go.
  2. On Facebook ? I´m watching the Grenal. First time those rivals meet in Libertadores and it´ll probably be the last big match in Brazil for some time.
  3. At this exact moment, Grêmio and Internacional are playing their Copa Libertadores match and there are 50.000 fans at Arena Grêmio.
  4. Northern Italy has a large chinese community working in the textile industry. Also, Italy is one of the top destination for chinese tourists outisde Asia. Traffic between China and Italy exceeds by a good margin the traffic between China and South America.
  5. South America, in general, in contrast to Europe, is so far in a better position but it has more to do with trade and airport traffic volume to Asia than to any measure taken by south american governments. The real challenge is about to begin.
  6. As a brazilian journalist said earlier today, the coronavirus test result might be the first positive thing to happen in more than one year of Bolsonaro administration.
  7. Bolsonaro himself was tested today. Results tomorrow. The worst part is that the President earlier this week said the coronavirus crisis was nothing more than a fantasy and was asking his supporters to go to the streets on Sunday for a demonstration in support of the government. He´s such an idiot.
  8. It´s a strategy. As @nudge mentioned, it´s very risky, but there´s method to it. I´m not in position to judge what´s the best course of action, I´m not an expert. What I meant is that it´s not a case of simple negligence from the british government, as it was the case from the US until yesterday. https://www.itv.com/news/2020-03-12/british-government-wants-uk-to-acquire-coronavirus-herd-immunity-writes-robert-peston/
  9. A good thread on why it´s so tough for governments to decide when to pull the trigger on more severe measures. Even at the peak of the cases in Wuhan, only 1% to 5% of its population was exposed to coronavirus. The rest of the population still isn´t immune to it. Some governments may delay adopting a Wuhan or Italy-like quarantine so that more people are exposed to the virus and acquire immunity. It´s a risk strategy, obviously. But you can´t quarantine a region or a country indefinitely, so picking the best time to do it is very important. I remember @Dr. Gonzo mentioning about a 2nd wave and this seem to be danger of not giving enough time for a "collective immunity" to be acquired. It was the 2nd wave that was the most lethal in 1918-19. It´s a shit sandwich, no easy decisions.
  10. Yep. It´d be ironic if Bolsonaro, who admires and looks up to Trump, ends up being responsible for Trump contracting coronavirus. By the way, during that meeting Bolsonaro said corona was a fantasy.
  11. Quite an eventful evening. The crisis has definitely reached the US.
  12. Bonucci posted this on his Instagram on Sunday after the win versus Inter: Also, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were tested positive for coronavirus.
  13. 25 confirmed cases and no deaths so far. It´s still summer here, so the real test will be from April on, especially in south, where temperatures are lower.
  14. One thing I find interesting is that asians seem to take restriction measures a lot more serious than westerners. Granted, there was that korean lady that went to the church but for the most part, the impression I have is that westerners seem to have a much harder in following rules that curb their individual autonomy. I´ve just read about two italians trying to go to Spain for vacation and also about a rave that took place in Milan recently. https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20170118-how-east-and-west-think-in-profoundly-different-ways
  15. The power of Ferrari engines leading Italy to the top.
  16. I´m not american but the complacency of american government is really bothering and worrying me. How can this stuff happen in the richest country in the world?!
  17. I was listening to a Podcast with the author of the book "Pale Rider: The Spanish Flu of 1918 and How It Changed the World", Laura Spinney, and one thing she mentioned is that government transparency and the cooperation of the population is fundamental. She was somewhat optimistic.
  18. It´s definitely worrisome. Especially considering the volume of passenger traffic between Brazil and Italy and also due to the fact Carnival is only ending today. Brazil could be a game-changer in this crisis. Add to this the risk of the virus somehow reaching Venezuela where a significant part of the population is malnourished. EDIT: Apparently the man had been in São Paulo for 4 days before getting tested. During Carnival. Oh boy...
  19. First case in Brazil has been just confirmed. A 61-year old man who returned from Italy.
  20. I didnt watch it. Flamengo matches at Campeonato Carioca are not being broadcasted.
  21. Valverde should have been fired after Anfield but the way Barcelona's board his dismissal is a disgrace. For all his faults, Valverde shouldn't have been treated like he was. Barcelona openly dealt with Xavi while Valverde was still the coach. That's not how such a club should handle things.
  22. With Palmeiras defeat to Grêmio, Flamengo is officially Brazilian champion. Two titles in less than 24 hours. Insane.
  23. JJ is an excellent coach. A breath of fresh air for brazilian football. The level of coaching in Brazil is atrocious but the arrival of JJ and Sampaoli made things more interesting. I think Flamengo is the favorite to win the title. I'd also say they have a good shot of winning Libertadores as well. They have a great coach and a very good squad. Santos is the 2nd and they'll face Flamengo at Maracanã Saturday to end the 1st half. Huge match but I still think Palmeiras is the one team that will fight with Flamengo for the title. Tite has good job security after winning Copa America. He's not on the hot seat. But should that change, JJ definitely would be a strong name, along with Renato Gaúcho.
  24. Hey guys, what was your favorite driver growing up? Mine was Juan Pablo Montoya. He was fearless and really fast.
