Why are Brits the only ones who have to celebrate mother's day on a different date?

It's because the Brits have to be different.
Mothers' Day always puts me out of pocket. Instead of buying something worthwhile I end up splashing my hard-earned cash on a gift planned for weeks in advance. No gift equals a very hard time and complaints for months.
