General La Liga Discussion

Celta Vigo Very good season for them considering they have lost Orellana, Nolito and Augusto in recent times and given the resources they have. Looks like there's a lot of discontent at the moment towards Carlos Mourino which has escalated after the treatment of Berizzo, with Unzué being the likely favourite to replace him. Hopefully they can be innovative over the summer and strengthen the areas in their squad that need it and push on again next season but it's going to be difficult. -

How is Ralf Rangnick viewed these days? -
Enjoyed this title win much more than the last, what a day.

Thank you John.

We don't seem to go too much over 30M these days, it would surprise me a lot if we spent 70M, the only way I could see it happen if we got a big chunk of money come in from elsewhere. I wouldn't be happy with spending that amount on Lukaku (or most players tbh) anyway and Everton will be tough negotiators (they have every right to be), like they were with us and John Stones. I say we play the long game with Lukaku, perhaps with his help we can catch him in the future in a summer where his contract is going to expire. I said when we sold him (which makes the quoted 70M even worse as well) that he'd be back with us at some point in the future, I'm pretty sure we could tempt him away from most clubs as well. I for one am more interested in what's going on in Costa's mind and I'd be more than happy to keep him for another season.

Regardless of people's opinion of Costa in the second half of this season, if he does leave, he's going to be difficult to replace. His performances have improved recently but he's never performed consistently throughout a season for us yet, in 2014/15 it was the same only a bigger deal was made of it this season because of the China links, even last season he started playing well only when Hiddink came in. He'll be difficult to replace regardless, I like Lukaku because of his admiration for the club and hence there my heart is ruling over the decision but the money puts me off. As for Morata, I'd question whether he can be the main man for us throughout a season, I have doubts about his overall play and presence up top on his own. For me he's a good impact player or he does well playing up front as a second striker and there's always doubt there considering the managers he's worked for so far have yet to trust him with full responsibility in being the main striker throughout a season. Above all, I'd be happy with keeping Costa for another season if he's happy to do that. Regardless of what happens with Lukaku, I still feel we could get him down the line in the future if we really wanted to. Love this goal.

Can only echo what others have said already, you'll love it. Went when I was younger (so perhaps wouldn't have appreciated the place as much as I would now) but still it was enough to hit me at the time, beautiful place.

How was it mate? At our old Goals team I could have sworn the latest KO's were around 22:00 (maybe later). I'm the type that takes any kickabout seriously to be honest and would prefer to play with people who are the same, 3 of my best mates are the same which makes 2 on 2s very competitive which is something I prefer. Of course there's moments and times where we all meet up and it's just a laugh though at the same time. I like the competition but it takes a lot for me to lose my temper (in life in general to be honest as well). I'll have the odd pop at the referee but that's it and it's never over the top abuse anyway, it's just when I feel I need to remind him of something in the game. I can relate to people with referees at 5 a side as well, had experience with some who are similar to what Storts explained and they don't have enough control. In my experience being a previous referee it's best to snap out anything early on to get authority in the game and if done correctly you can then earn the respect of the players. We use to laugh at Goals that the referees even struggled with keeping the right scores, so it got to the point where we'd ask them constantly what the score was. I'd maintain the best thing you can do to a referee is be-friend them, shouting at them constantly can have some influence but not as much as people think and it can have the opposite effect as well in most cases. Anyone who was giving me constant stick on the sidelines, I'd constantly think I don't want to be seen as bowing to their pressure and most of all I don't particularly like this bloke either, so fuck him. Anyway I read a very good book recently and I'd recommend it loads for you football players.

The back three seems to go to chaos when it's changed about and one player that hasn't impressed me at all playing there has been Kurt Zouma whose physical attributes (as it's been documented before) sometimes help hide his limitations as a defender. His injury came at the wrong time and the next two years are going to be interesting for him, for me he's still got a lot to improve on as a defender. Despite his weaknesses being still apparent, he was very good under Mourinho before his injury and he still has great potential. He must work on the tactical and discipline aspects of defending and also improve his ability on the ball (it's never too late). Maybe a loan spell could be good for him if we bring back/sign one or two defenders.

Happy Birthday Vedran mate! Hopefully you have even more reason to celebrate tonight.

Tottenham Hotspur Discussion

Credit to Poch and Spurs, nice team they're building there. Love the amount of English players they have playing regularly as well, wish I could say the same for us. Any Spaniard I talk to here in Sevilla, says they like Spurs. -
Interesting mate, although playing with higher intensity and pressing more doesn't have to result in giving away too many free kicks (not suggesting you're suggesting this by the way), it can be done correctly. I would like to see Matic play with more intensity and stop letting periods of the game pass him by. Kante mind has been giving away too many free kicks of late.

Strange how a player can change so much, 2014 Matic was class. Also not forgetting this award for Benfica as well the previous season. Struggling to find a good video from 2014 (without much perseverance mind) but there's a few moments in this one and you can see the difference for me, so much more intensity and fight back then. You have to admit he started this season a lot better but he's nowhere near the level of 2014. He's too passive for me nowadays. Better clip:

Yeah loved that a few years back, was the soundtrack to my time in France when I was there. Class!

Whilst the managers ultimately pick the players, in fairness, it's not necessarily any of the managers' fault, it won't be until the mentality at the club changes that we see youth getting a proper chance in the first team. On another note, I don't trust this group of players with seeing the season out to win the title, I think we're becoming a comedy act at the back in recent months and I'd argue nearly half the usual eleven aren't good enough in my eyes, imagine some of them playing in the Champions League next season? Hopefully (it does sound like it mind), it's going to be a big summer in terms of bringing new players in and that doesn't necessarily mean we have to spend loads of money either. Hazard needs to shoot more. I don't think we press well enough as a unit anymore. We're also getting pressing wrong at times which means we're getting more and more exposed on the counter which almost never happened earlier in the season. Defending set pieces is slowly and discreetly becoming a big problem, Conte's reaction to a poorly defended corner against Southampton says a lot. Cahill is a shite John Terry. Cahill is as equally dangerous in the opposition box as he is ours at the minute. I think we've become too cautious and our game management is getting worse. I know we've just knocked them out the cup but I thought Spurs' game management against Palace last night was miles better than anything I've seen from us in recent weeks.

Tony Adams becoming the manager of Granada is the funniest thing to happen all season. -
What a classic. Can imagine hearing this randomly in 20 years time and looking back and going 'those were the days'
