Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted February 22, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted February 22, 2021 Quote Joey Barton: Bristol Rovers appoint former Fleetwood boss and ex-England midfielder as new manager Bristol Rovers have appointed Joey Barton as their new manager. The 38-year-old has agreed to a deal at the Memorial Stadium until 2023 and returns to management after leaving League One rivals Fleetwood last month. The ex-Manchester City, Newcastle United and Burnley midfielder guided Fleetwood to the League One play-offs last season. Rovers have won just one of their past 12 games in all competitions and are two points above the relegation places. Head of recruitment Tommy Widdrington has been in temporary charge, winning his first game against Portsmouth before a 2-0 defeat at Gillingham on Saturday left them 19th in the table. Barton is Rovers' third manager this season after succeeding Paul Tisdale, who was sacked earlier this month after less than three months in charge. Tisdale himself replaced Ben Garner on 19 November after he was sacked following only three wins in the club's first 11 league games of the season. Barton has brought in Clint Hill as assistant manager and Andy Mangan as the first-team coach. FULL REPORT
Danny
Done a decent job at Fleetwood, interesting to see him go to Bristol Rovers. There more money available there?
Smiley Culture
Funny that they’ve given him any longer than the end of the season considering he’s in court in the summer for nutting a Barnsley coach and they’re in bother at the bottom of League One. Why Joey Barton isn't he some kind of nutjob/hothead who picks fights with everyone? Sounds very dangerous to me, not the ambassador you would want. He is a nice guy really Joey Barton's most disgraceful controversies - cigar eye stub, teammate assault and bum flash Newly-appointed Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton has been to prison, injured players on and off the pitch and even got into a fight with the TOWIE cast https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/joey-bartons-most-disgraceful-controversies-23544106
Dave
Wasn't the Towie thing a Twitter fight where he took the piss out of Arg for being fat? I think it will be a good appointment for the year or two that it needs to be. There owner has been willing to bankroll the covid losses, Barton's got knowledge and enthusiasm, he got a tune out of those Fleetwood players previously and he's bringing in a good understudy in the legend that is Clint Hill.
