They're also useful for host countries of tournaments seeing as they don't have to qualify and therefore players would miss out there were no friendlies. ScoRoss 475 Posted November 11, 2017 The international calendar needs a complete overhaul and then you would get more benefit from international friendlies. Longer but fewer 'international breaks' would benefit everyone involved massively. Ideally given a chance to play 3 or 4 games in a row, with a friendly at the beginning, would improve the quality of a lot of international matches. Realistically, how much work can a manager have when they only have the squad (which will naturally change from time to time) for a week at a time and try and mould together a team in such a small time.
