Joe Gomez to Miss World Cup Through Injury

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss the World Cup after undergoing season-ending ankle surgery.

Gomez injured his ankle in March while playing for England, but was able to play through the pain barrier and start Liverpool's Premier League games against West Brom and Stoke City.

But he suffered a recurrence of the problem against Stoke and further scans showed he needed surgery, which will rule him out of the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 26.

He impressed in the friendlies and Gareth Southgate has shown a tendency to place faith in players he's previously trusted. His previous criticism of Smalling combined with the fact were extremely thin in defence as it is makes me think he had a better chance than people think, including the tosser that last posted
