(QF) Spain (aet)2-1 Germany - Friday 5th July, 2024
El Profesor replied to Stan's topic in Euro 2024 - Knockout Stage
Despite the elimination, I still think the Euros represent a huge gain for Germany´s NT. After the humiliations of 2018 and 2022, Germany performed like Germany again. Nagelsmann has put them on the right track and I think the germans will come back strong for 2026. -

I don´t think it´s a coincidence that most of his stupid and violent deeds were committed during the time Mourinho was managing Real Madrid. Obviously, I am not implying Mourinho is responsible for Pepe´s actions, but I really feel like Mourinho style of management, the whole us versus them motivation techniques Mou employs were poison for a player like Pepe, who already has a short temper. I would say, yes Pepe definitely is a prick. But he is also a portuguese football legend. Considering his longevity and achievements, he probably belongs in the top 10 of portuguese football history. Maybe top 5. IMO Pepe and not Ronaldo was the best portuguese player in the 2016 european title. We really screwed up with Pepe by not calling him before Portugal did. A Thiago Silva and Pepe defense would have been unreal. -

They´re playing like Greece in 2004. Since 2018, the whole Deschamps offensive strategy is centered around Mbappé. Now that Mbappé is not at his best, their attack looks really anemic. Roberto Martínez really cost a talented portuguese generation of players with his stubbornness regarding the role of Cristiano Ronaldo. At this point of his career, Ronaldo should be no more than a sub. -

Am I crazy or Ronaldo just did an illegal stop during the run-up to take his penalty? -

Just finished work in time to watch the overtime. Hopefully we don´t get deprived of a penalty shootout. No late goals, please. -
Your impression is correct. Copa America is not taken as seriously as the Euros are. For example, yesterday Yeferson Soteldo, a player from Venezuela, told the media that qualifying for the World Cup is more important than winning Copa America. There are lots of reasons for this, the small number of countries in the continent, the fact that travelling in South America is really expensive for fans... But to sum up, Copa America is nowhere near to the Euros or Afcon.

Dibu Martínez is the most clutch goalkeeper I've ever seen. He turns into a wall when it counts the most.

Argentina has looked off all Copa America. They are beating Ecuador, but the ecuadorians have outplayed them. Even without Messi at his best physical condition, I expected a lot more from Argentina.

(QF) England (p)1-1 Switzerland - Saturday 6th July, 2024
El Profesor replied to Stan's topic in Euro 2024 - Knockout Stage
On paper, England is the favorite on its side of the bracket. Despite being pretty bad as a team, I still think the individual talent of english players ends up putting England in the final. -
Apparently, both our 2nd and 3rd goalkeepers (Ederson and Bento) are moving to Saudi Arabia. Bento is a great goalkeeper and in my opinion he deserves to start over Alisson. Moving to Saudi Arabia at 25 may not be the best move career wise for Bento, but I definitely respect his option, considering it will settle he and his family financially.

That´s the standard of Conmebol refereeing. It´s really bad. Right now, Canada is the best Concacaf team. Mexico and US will need to improve a lot to do well as hosts in 2026. Brazil vs Colombia tonight is a decisive match. The winner gets to face Panama in the next round, the loser will face Uruguay. Colombia is by far the better team, but Brazil has better players. It should be an interesting one to watch.

Even they were secretly rooting for the English Team. Not even an England hater would want a quarter-final between Slovakia vs Switzerland. -

The more time you give to a bad coach train his team, the worse that team will perform. This definitely seems the case with Southgate. -

! Bellingham! There is a lot of talk here in Brazil about Vini getting the Balon d'Or, but depending on how England advances in this Euro, that goal could put Bellingham on top. -
Brazil vs Costa Rica in minutes. Should be an easy win for Brazil. EDIT: 0-0. We are terrible. Neymar is still essential for Brazil. Without his individual talent, we are at this point the 4th best team in South America.

Estevao Joining Chelsea Next Summer
El Profesor replied to Dave's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
Also, Estevão and Endrick are completely different players. Estevão is more of a classic winger, while Endrick is a striker. IMO Estevão is more talented and more technically gifted than Endrick. On the other hand, Endrick seems to be more mature, hence the jump to Europe might be less problematic to him. I would say that Estevão is the closest to a generational prospect since Neymar. I wouldn´t go as far to say Estevão is generational, not yet. But the way he is developing is just incredible. At age 17, he is already the best player in a very strong Palmeiras side. Rodrygo and Vinícius Jr. as a good as they were when they started, weren´t that good. So one can say for sure, at least for now that Estevão has a very high ceiling. I am not sure what Chelsea will do with all the young forward talent they have, Kendry Paez also looks great by the way. -
Italy 2-1 Albania - Saturday 15th June, 2024
El Profesor replied to Stan's topic in Group B - Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
Get in! I´m adopting Albania as my team in the Euro, since Sylvinho is their coach. It´s a really tough group, but hopefully Albania will be able to at least put a fight. I´ve heard good things about Jasir Asani. He is currently playing in South Korea, a good tournament from him could get him a move to a big leauge in Europe. -
If I had to guess, that's probably an ad. EDIT: It was indeed an ad. This is very unlike Ronaldinho and he is also very close to several players in the NT, especially with Raphinha, since both are from Porto Alegre. But to be fair, the post is not that wrong. Our NT is terrible. Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay are all above us, and I am not completely sure we would beat Equador, Mexico and the US at the moment.

Well, we weren´t invited to the party. haha But I must admit, the Euros are much more exciting than the borefest that is Copa America, which is by far the worst continental competition in the world.

I mean, there's nowhere to go but down after Andrea Bocelli sang in the Leicester title celebration, right? That season was the peak of Premier League imo. -
I read recently a rumour about Rodrygo possibly moving to Liverpool. I really hope this move actually happens. Rodrygo is way too talented to play second fiddle. Due to his versatility, he's moved to the right-wing, but his best position is in the left. He needs to move to a team where he always play LW and where he is the focal point of the attack, especially considering the Mbappé signing. His two goals tonight against Bilbao show how good he can be when his potential is maximized.

Haven't seen much of Liverpool this season, but the impression I have is that the lack of a realiable source of goals ,other than Salah, could cost them in the Premier League race.
