This is my biggest issue too; there are so many things I'm eager to see happening, so many books to read, so many things to experience...I do think that we'll see first humans on Mars sometime around 2030s-2040s though, so that gives me hope! It's just a drop in the ocean of knowledge though. I read somewhere that we might be one of the last generations that dies of old age; talk about bad time to be born, haha!

Not a great qualifying for Mick... Two costly mistakes in second session today and a combined P9 for the qualifying race tomorrow... Expect a lot of accidents so it's unpredictable anyway. Credit to Ticktum; he did what he had to do and has a deserved pole.
-
He's got pole in Qualifying 1 which had three red flags and many of the drivers failed to show good times after getting stuck in traffic. Callum Ilott P2. Mick Schumacher P3. @Tommy: Sophia Flörsch at P15; well ahead her teammates!

What do you think it could be? I know it's all speculation and wild guesses, but I'm really intrigued to hear your thoughts on it. As in, how surreal are we talking about here?

WTF The narrator was doing well until like 8th minute when he suddenly claimed that magnetic anomalies can't be explained by any natural cause (wtf?...natural tectonic forces, mineral deposits, Earth crust, composition of rocks, etc. are responsible for numerous magnetic anomalies all over the world) and then BAM! - he moved directly to alien spaceships, sunken civilizations, Atlantis, UFOs and then the best part, apparently the distance between Mars and Earth is 52 miles There's a lot of interesting and curious stuff about Antarctica, but none of it needs far fetched (to put it nicely) conspiracy theories to be explained... If you want something about Antarctica that haven't been resolved yet and that has left scientists puzzled, take a look at this: https://interestingengineering.com/abnormal-particles-flying-up-from-antarctica-leave-scientists-puzzled Now that's truly fascinating and could change physics as we know it.
-
Yes - and can't imagine what it might hide underneath... even more so I wonder what we might find in Antarctica if we ever get to drill it properly, considering it's 5km thick in some places Lake Vostok is particularly fascinating; its waters could have been isolated for tens of millions of years and it's possible that we might find unusual life forms there (if any).

Very exciting discovery that would not only explain the sudden climate change some 10000 years ago, but could also explain the origins of the Great Flood myth that is prevalent in so many cultures and religions all over the world! Imagine living through a cataclysmic event like this though... and the possibility of one of such asteroids hitting the Earth again

Just finished watching the first episode of Dynasties, a BBC docu featuring David Attenborough (I posted the trailer some time ago!). It's amazing... The first episode focuses on chimpanzees, a particular troop of them in Senegal, to be precise. The camera work and the level of details is fantastic, it's so beautifully shot and goes in-depth with the social dynamics, politics and power struggles. Highly recommended!!! And damn, chimps are brutal.

It's not about him pushing and confronting other drivers, it's about passion and emotion. Much rather have a talented driver like Verstappen with all his antics, controversies and character flaws than yet another boring generic PC clone saying the same things and behaving the same way as everyone else in a sport that has become way too sanitised anyway. For me, he's been a breath of fresh air ever since joining F1. Do you remember outbursts of Senna, Schumacher, Hunt, Prost, Mansell, Piquet and the likes in the past? All the heated arguments? Remember how Senna twated Irvine in a similar situation for him having the cheek to unlap himself and they didn't even touch? Hot tempers and big egos have always been a big part of motorsports, which is not surprising considering it's young competitive men with testosterone overload we're talking about here; it adds to the action and drama on and off the track and I for one welcome that. Drivers are humans (well except for Bottas), and many people enjoy seeing a human side of it. Not to mention the publicity it gets for the sport, FIA should be grateful Oh and I'm pretty sure that if the same happened to Lewis, his fanboys would be calling for Ocon's head

Where in Germany were you stationed?
-
Same; can't stand drinking out of cans... Regarding prices: local beer costs 0.5-1$ in a bar here, 1.5-3$ for a regular imported beer, 4-5$ for German Weizenbier and the likes. Drank Saigon Special for 18000VND (less than a dollar) in Vietnam last week; that was the most expensive beer they had too haha. The others were even cheaper but also not that good. God bless SE Asia!

Ha, after drinking light, fizzy, highly carbonated Asian beer for the last 5 years, I'd love something really malty once in a while! Other than Sapporo, Beer Lao is probably the best one for me. Tiger is decent too. There are plenty of beers that are very drinkable in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, but they are just too generic... I'd love a Schwarzbier right now Or any proper German or Czech beer, really. Preferably dark.
-
I prefer Sapporo, but Asahi is quite nice too! I don't particularly enjoy most Asian beers in general due to rice they use in brewing, but those are among the few exceptions...

I know it's silly and doesn't make sense, but it's fun. A few years after Mark Watney successfully returned to Earth, numerous natural disasters devastated the Earth resulting in droughts, blight and radically altered atmosphere, leaving humanity on a brink of extinction. Mark Watney assumed an alias of Dr Mann and was fruitlessly (ha!) working on solving the agricultural crisis using his biology skills and his previous experience at Mars, when the wormhole was discovered and he volunteered for the Lazarus missions and landed on the unnamed planet. The rest is history

Recently finished The Darth Bane Trilogy (this should be made into movie!!!) and The Han Solo Trilogy: Now moving to the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn which is considered to be THE BOOK that kicked off the whole Star Wars Expanded Universe: All the Star Wars stuff is audiobooks. Meanwhile, I'm reading Olaf Stapledon's Last and First Men, which depicts the history of humans and their descendants, until the eighteenth and last human species (we are the first) dies out two billion years from now. A bit of a tough yet fascinating read, feels dated quite a bit in terms of science/technology and especially considering how wrong he was in predicting the events of the 20th century (the book was published in 1930s), but the imagination and the scope of future civilizations is mind blowing. Will follow it up with Star Maker.

Thanks for sharing, this was a very interesting video/article. As for this ExoMars mission, we have been receiving first data and images from the Trace Gas Orbiter since April, and I'm even more excited about the actual rover as it contains a bunch of new-gen instruments, both for high quality imaging and data collection (including spectrometers and subsurface radars and imagers) and actual sample analysis tools (as it is expected to drill down to a maximum depth of 2 meters!), including The Mars Organic Molecule Analyzer which will primarily target biomarkers in both soil and atmosphere gases. This is the first image of Mars that the Trace Gas Orbiter has captured: Date: 26 April 2018 Satellite: Trace Gas Orbiter Depicts: Korolev crater Copyright: ESA/Roscosmos/CaSSIS Then later we got this (my favourite!): Date: 19 September 2018 Satellite: Trace Gas Orbiter Copyright: ESA/Roscosmos/CaSSIS, CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO

Nice!

What did you have to do to win it?

I like to pretend that Mark Watney and Dr. Mann are the same person

Hope this will work better than the first part of the programme when their Schiaparelli lander crashed while attempting a landing a few years back... They have some interesting instruments on the rover, it's like a small lab on wheels, very cool! 2020 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for Mars exploration; if all goes as planned, we'll have three rovers on the planet - Curiosity (current NASA rover), ExoMars (ESA/Roscosmos rover), and Mars2020 (NASA's future rover), and there are rumours that China are planning to launch their own in the same year as well.
