Administrator Stan Posted April 17 Author Administrator Posted April 17 Yep, a new player has entered the game! Enter, Southampton! They seem to be hitting form at exactly the right time after a last-gasp win over Watford and a much more convincing one over Preston. Leicester faltered again, Ipswich were held at Middlesbrough, and Leeds also missed out on the chance to capitalise. Southampton once again the big winners as they are now only 5 points off Ipswich in 1st, and play three times before Ipswich play again. Two teams drop out of the play-off race - very unlikely that Middlesbrough and Preston will turn around 8 points with 3 games to go. Just Norwich, Coventry & Hull to fight it out for 6th, although it is most likely going to be the Canaries that do it... Dave Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I think the palyoffs are pretty much set with Norwich's remaining fixtures. I'd quite like to see Sara at Palace so selfishly I don't want them to go up. I still think it's Leicester's to lose but the matchday going fans really need to get behind them for the remaining fixtures, there seems to be a darker cloud over them than the other three competing teams when things aren't going there way even though Southampton's odds for automatic promotion were huge a couple of weeks back. Subscriber Dan+ Posted April 19 Subscriber Posted April 19 I put two bets on the other week as insurance against us collapsing which were Leeds 1st Ipswich 2nd, and Ipswich 1st Leeds 2nd. So naturally, obviously, Southampton are going to do it. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted April 25 Author Administrator Posted April 25 Some more classic Championship mayhem ensues going into the final 2 rounds of the season. Leicester bagged 6 priceless points against far better opposition than their previous two games; whilst Leeds dragged themselves into 2nd place edging Middlesbrough in a 7-goal thriller. Both capitalised on Ipswich not playing. Southampton played themselves out of the title race although one could argue they never really got themselves back into it; and they still do have a shot at promotion, albeit extremely slim and verging on impossible. But it could all change once again this weekend! Leeds play first out of the top 3 on Friday vs QPR, and a loss for them means Leicester will be promoted before kicking another ball. A draw for Leeds means Leicester also just need a draw, whilst Ipswich have the benefit of a game in hand to try and wrestle back into the top 2 - albeit their opponents are also chasing play-offs. Southampton simply have to win their two remaining games, and hope there's a ridiculous swing in goal difference in the process. West Brom have somehow played themselves into still needing a point to secure a play-off place after only 1 win in 6. They will probably be fine given their goal-difference, though. Norwich just need a win and hope Hull and Coventry don't win 1 of their remaining games. Hull overcame Coventry in a very important play-off chasing game last night, but the latter still have an outside shot if they win all of their games however it is out of their hands given they need 2 of the sides above them to drop points too. Danny Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Honestly it might be the case that Norwich or Hull go up through the play-offs. So much of the play-offs is just confidence, seeing Leeds and Southampton not just take some losses but take some absolute beatings really doesn't bode well for them. How will they do in that second leg of the semi-final? How will do they do at Wembley where your overall quality goes out of the window and its just down to who can perform? Hull or Norwich might see it as an opportunity to win whereas the other teams a chance to slip up. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted May 1 Author Administrator Posted May 1 In the space of a few days Leicester were promoted without kicking a ball after Leeds were thrashed away at QPR, and then sealed the title with a convincing win over Preston. A day later, and Ipswich found themselves 99.9% promoted after beating Coventry away. Leeds look destined for the play-offs. Regarding those play-offs, perhaps this is where the most drama will play out on the final day, as 3 teams battle it out for the final 2 spots. Hull picked up a point in a very entertaining 3-3 draw with Ipswich on Saturday and this, along with Norwich and West Brom dropping points, put them in contention to grab one of those prized spots... Final Games Ipswich vs Huddersfield Leeds vs Southampton Birmingham vs Norwich West Brom vs Preston Plymouth vs Hull Permutations - Ipswich just need a point, regardless of what Leeds do, to secure automatic promotion and a return to the PL after more than 2 decades - Leeds must win and hope Ipswich lose - Norwich just need a point regardless of what West Brom & Hull do - West Brom just need a draw too, even if Hull win as it is unlikely there will be an 11-goal swing in goal difference - Hull have to win and hope West Brom lose, or that Norwich lose by enough to have a swing of 7 goals in Hull's favour. Bluebird Hewitt Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Games of the weekend for me are the Norwich and Hull games, as all four teams have everything to play for at both ends of the table. If Ipswich lose to Huddersfield, they deserve to stay in the Championship. Quote
