Athletic Bilbao have raked in €65m from the departure of Aymeric Laporte and are set to sign Real Sociedad’s Inigo Martinez to replace the Frenchman. However, they are also looking to splash the cash to sign Merino, who has been a long-term target for the Basque club. Newcastle are willing to accept offers for the Spaniard and Athletic Bilbao have shown the most interest in securing his services.
