Rafa Márquez Announces His Retirement From Football

Barcelona great and Mexico legend Rafaél Márquez yesterday announced his retirement from football. 

One of Mexico's greatest players and one of the best centre-backs of the late 90s and early 2000s has finished his football days and for Mexico this is the end of an era.

that's a shame. so young as well. Thought he would have played in a few more World Cups!

I always thought he was rather underrated. Not enough credit was given to him when at elite level and he was a fantastic defender... Piqué took over his position when he decided his time was up at Barça and his partnership with Puyol was one of the best in contemporary Barcelona teams.

What a career. Great at its highest point and continued on for many more years than i'd expected. 

Pretty sure i remember having him in my fantasy team for the 2002 world cup!
