We need a complete reset... I appreciate that the side is a young one but they are lacking in almost every department with no real signs of improvement with 22 games gone and although occasionally it all comes together for the odd match where we do well or let's say 'get a win' because to say we do well is too much of a stretch even for me, but in these matches some players will shine and stand out but overall the levels of performance across the team have been massively inconsistent.. Another thing that has begun to dawn on me is whilst these players are young and have been given long contracts due to the 'potential' tag they come attached with I wonder if a lot of them are already at their maximum potential and can't improve much further?? I mean take Palmer for instance, he has been great for us so far but he is standing out in an otherwise poorly performing team and I have to wonder why Guardiola would let him go if he is such an outstanding talent?? Maybe it's because he has reached his potential with not much more room for improvement beyond what performances he is putting in now and Guardiola may have recognised that and cashed in while they could still get a good price.. I could be completely wrong of course and with the right management and tactics they could all suddenly be looking like superstars but I doubt it.. I said a while back that Fernandez is just looking more and more like a very, very expensive Mason Mount and what are we getting for that outlay?? not much composure in front of goal that's for sure and not many defence splitting passes. Across 22 games you might have hoped for a lot more or at least a handful of games where he was a shining light but you would be hard pushed to pick any of our games where he was influential or stood out in any way.. I may be being over critical perhaps but like you wonder why we are overlooking our academy players who would put their heart and soul in games and at least have some fight and passion for the badge which are all of the things currently missing from the squad.. At the moment we just look like a mish mash of players doing a lot of running about with no end product yet again like last season.. One can only hope for better going forward but I for one will not be holding my breath..
