Trump and the republicans actually keep increasing the military budget. The US Army Corps of Engineers (the people who built the Golden Gate Bridge, amongst other things) will probably build the wall, if Trump goes about the wall as a “national emergency.” Also if you look at the amount the US spends on its military, I think China and Russia likely would take decades to even struggle keep up the pace with an America that even cut spending by a ridiculous amount. I’m not surprised the military wanted a disproportionate response. First, it’s incredibly easy for them to put out a disproportionate attack that they’ll argue is a future deterrent from the Islamic Republic’s aggression. Secondly, anything that’s expensive for Iran right now is economically devastating because their economy is in tatters right now. They’d be banking on Iran and it’s population not having the stomach for a war.

You’re probably right in terms of numbers. But I do wonder how many of China’s military are combat ready and how many of them are just a glorified police force.

Is it, that would make sense, as they’ve got fucking soldiers everywhere in China. Most expensive then, because that’s the US by a mile. And tbh I’m not so worried about conventional boots on the ground warfare. I’m worried about bombs, missiles and drone attacks on Tehran - Afghanistan, Iraq, and Yemen are all examples of how US military “surgical” strikes aren’t all that surgical but are really good at killing a lot of people.
