Ahh, that's why I've never seen them then . I was thinking they were on the outskirts of the city or something. What is it like at the moment anyway? It is busy or is it quieter due to the whole covid? I usually love going in Feb-April type of time. Just the right amount of people.
-
Yeah I like it down that area mate. Thinking of it, I've seen the majority of the city. I haven't been to those windmills that @Lucas posted pictures of, so that is an idea.

I suppose most of the country will be quite chilled. Nice unique architecture as well and very walker and cycle friendly which isn't always the case with cities in some countries. Also your public transport is miles ahead than it is in this country. To be honest, there are parts of Amsterdam that I haven't even seen, so I will go on one of my explorations. I just shit myself then as I read something that Brits and Swedes still have to quarantine in the Netherlands for 14 days upon arrival, but it was from weeks ago and was changed 5 days ago. Thank god for that Lithuania: British nationals resident in the UK may travel to Lithuania without needing to self-isolate. You don't know what you're letting yourselves in for(and that's when there is no virus) @nudge

Yeah, it's simply just an expensive city, but then that's also why it's so safe, clean, etc(not sure what London's excuse is for not being either of the 2 ) with a strong economy(or was before covid atleast), but I honestly never spend enough time in a hotel room to warrant such money anyway. Anything does in Amsterdam as it's simply a case of somewhere to stash your belongings and sleep at night. I'd sleep in a tent in Vondelpark .
-
Yeah I will have to do that one day as I'm only going for 3 days(any longer in Amsterdam and you have no money ) but I will bare it in mind in the future. I was just thinking of somewhere to explore and chill out on one of the days to be honest. I'm not too arsed about the night life at the moment and just want to walk about and chill out. Well I say that, but things change once you land there

I love the way those cities are laid out, with all the canals. I will have to check one of the 2 out as they both look much better than Rotterdam. Also them being less crowded and touristy makes them more appealing as well. It would be nice to see the windmills also and it probably has more of a local feel to it.
-
There's actually spots I've never been in Amsterdam to be honest, so I will go on a mad explore. I've never been to the Windmills that Lucas went to for example. What about Haarlem and Utrecht? @Panflute @SirBalon 69 They aren't far and look quite nice with much less tourism than Amsterdam, although the locals may all run away scared when an Englishman appears given current events . I might check one of those instead as they are a very short train journey anyway.

Yeah I would actually be surprised now if you could fly to Thailand in September as it stands. It'll probably only be the destinations we can fly to now and that's it. Jamaica is open though I was going to go to south Spain but the rules are too strict and it'll be packed. I'll go there in October still if it's possible then once everything gets back to normal I can start properly planning Colombia. I'm all Dammed out myself and didn't plan on going there again for a long time(mainly because I have too many places and countries to visit) but there is nothing here for that week so I might as well go somewhere. Italy would have been itneresting, but I like to plan shit a bit more first, and get an idea of what you're going to do, etc, whereas it doesn't really matter in the likes of Amsterdam as you can just freestyle. I'm not sure if you can do literally everything that you could, but I know the rules there are some of the least strict and as it stands, you only need to wear masks on public transport. I'll have to fill out a medical form though, but that's nothing. I'll be staying very close to the Heineken Experience. I've actually stayed there before. Not the greatest of hotels, but the location is class and it's cheap enough. Most hotels in Amsterdam are shit though. Small and nothing to them, nowhere near as good as the Apartment I was planning on getting in Malaga.
-
How long are you staying out there for? A few weeks? I would definitely prefer to be going to a tropical country, it has to be said.
-
I've just booked Amsterdam for 2 weeks today, 3 days No over the top mask rules there like in Spain and I might as well have a day in Rotterdam while over there since it's only an hour train and I've never been to Rotterdam. I wasn't planning on going back there for a long time but there are little options right now and The Netherlands doesn't seem to really have many daily cases now, nor are they strict on bullshit like masks on the streets, etc. Besides, the option is this or sat at home all week that week doing nothing. Also the hotel and flight was cheap as fuck. Come @Stan, @Lucas, @nudge

Like I said, I had it in January. I thought it was a shit cold but completely losing my sense of smell and taste and getting out of breath doing tasks that are usually nothing wasn't what I'd experienced before, well apart from when suffering asthma when I was younger and used to have minor attacks. Losing my sense of smell and taste was horrible as my mother lost hers 10 years ago and hasn't regained it since, so I was shitting myself. A bunch of us who were working together all had it. One lad was off work for a few week. Also a scouser who I know who had it kept saying he thought he had bronchitis.

Mine was taking Morecambe to being treble winners from league 2. I know @JOSHBRFC used to do the same with Accy Stanley. I can never be arsed though these days due to the effort. But it's fun taking the smallest clubs to being the best in the world.
-
Ahh so they basically just want people to go over there and spend money then, which makes sense due to the recent crisis. Yeah it is actually quite expensive there as I've just been looking now. It wouldn't balance itself out well enough to be worth it. I knew you'd have looked into it also .
-
Lancaster mate, trust me. Well, that's if they have the courses you're looking for. Ask @RandoEFC Great Uni and it's always expanding, there are new buildings all the time being built. Not to mention, it's actually a nice town(well a small city) to live in. You aren't exactly far from Liverpool or Manchester for days out and such either, nor are you far from the lake district if you travel in the other direction. Anyway, I woke up this morning, put Good morning Britain on(as you do) and the Prime Minister of Barbados was on there offering British people to go over there working and they would be given a stamp which allows them to stay for a year. Does anyone know anything else about this? My eyes genuinely lit up when I heard her saying it. I did a bit of google searching and apparently she was referring to people working from home(i.e office) workers, going over there for months a time and doing their work from over there. But is there work going over there also? I'd definitely be up for that at the end of this year. If you earned enough to get by over there and had money in the bank already(which I do), you can treat yourself from time to time as well. Not to mention you're closer to countries such as Colombia, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Brazil, etc . Great excuse to explore some countries while you were out there if you have savings. Obviously you'd have to hold the travel off to other countries right now and stay in Barbados, but if this opportunity is still around later in the year/start of next year and boarders start opening up by then, you can go out there working for 6 months to a year and while out there, go on trips to a few other countries when you have time off from the work you're doing. Fucking sounds tempting if the opportunity is there. But it all depends on what she really was referring to and whether there is actually plenty of work out there, etc.

I actually have a t-shirt somewhere with the same picture on it. The perfect sitting at home type of t-shirt, but they'd fit together. Masks will become somewhat a fashion for a while now.
-
Just bought that ready for when they become mandatory @nudge I've decided not to go away though as there is no point. You'd spend shitloads and it would be an average experience. It's too hot in Spain to be wearing a mask ALL the time. Sunbathing with a mask on? There is no sense at all. I actually saw a nice apartment to rent in Malaga for a good price. It is designed for 4 people but it has a big terrace, etc. I'll have to book that in the future, the apartment is a perfect location as well.
-
Just bought one of these. They tell us to wear a mask but never state which kind...
-
I'm going to make some phonecalls this week, phone a few hotels and airlines to make sure they are running and conjure something up. If I'm off that week(in 2 weeks time), then I may aswell go somewhere rather than be sat at home wanking for 7 days.
-
You should be alright in Malta as it stands but it's whether anything changes throughout the next few months. If I'm off the 27th-31st then I might aswell go somewhere while I can and then work all year and take advantage of it. Netherlands would be relaxed I'd have thought but I'm after beaches. San Sebastian could be one. How did you get there when you went? Bilbao airport, then a train?
-
It just doesn't sound appealing at all to go somewhere(Andalucía) and wear a mask outside in 40 degree heat..I'd have a red and white face and literally be wearing Man United colours. I'd look like @DeadLinesman when he's got his face paint on for the City derby. That is other than the beach I think, but surely the beach would leave you at more at risk of contracting the virus, since it'll be packed? Wearing them in shops, public transport, etc is fine as people have to work in them, it's only fair, but outside while walking seems extreme. I'll have to look into a few places. Maybe the Canaries? As it's all regional rules as you said.
-
What are the rules like in Croatia by the way? I might go there. Wearing a mask on a plane is fine by me, but never outside. There is Greece but no direct flights from.the UK.
-
Why quote that part but not the part after it? The part you quoted makes no sense on its own as that wasn't the point. If boarders are open then people should have a choice whether they wear a daft mask or not. In shops it's fair enough, but not while walking on a street,in a park or anywhere else outside. If it's that extreme then it's pointless having boarders open for tourists full stop as walking around with masks on in 38 degree heat where your head goes brown and face pale white is hardly the idea of fun is it? They just want your money, forget your experience. I'd assume all responsibility. Same with anyone else. You can't force people to wear a mask outside. Either way if people aren't toddlers and the state aren't their nanny, then why are they telling people to wear masks as if we are toddlers and they are our nanny?
-
Actually forget this, you've got to wear masks in the street now as of Monday. What a ridiculous rule. If it's that unsafe to travel there that you have to wear a mask as if you're in Cherynobl, then boarders shouldn't even be open. All it is is greed. Boarders shouldn't even be open if that's how the rules are.

So there is an 80% chance I'll be booking Malaga for the 27th June to 1st July(in 2 weeks), barring the other fella I work with as I'd have no real need to go in that week.
-
Brazil and Jamaica were always the 2 and then it started to become more Mexico and Colombia. The latter is the one that is the top of my list now and had it not been for covid, I'd actually have been travelling to those 2 countries(Mexico and Colombia) and would have been planning it now ready for the end of this year/beginning of next. Covid has been a bit of a financial blow though so it's about focusing on one country a time now and Colombia is the one. It's not that I haven't gotten around to going but never had anyone who is up for going and I didn't dare go on my own. People say they are up for going, but never are when it comes to the crunch. But now I've gone away on my own in Europe a few of times(Spain and Netherlands), I now have more confidence to go on my own if I have to. In the end, you meet people anyway. Fuck it, you only live once. As for holidays, of the 2 fellas I'm working with, one is going away to Croatia in a few weeks and the other one will likely have a week off. If so, then I'll have to have a week off myself, so I might fuck off somewhere in a couple of weeks, I'm going to have a look about now. Even just for 4 days. Only problem is, it's too packed at this time of the year. March-May and October are the best times to go away I think. It might not be as hot, but it's far better.
