  1. Did Hamilton just ask for team orders?
  2. The Great Silence (Il grande silenzio) - 1968 I'm back to watching spaghetti westerns again, and chose Sergio Corbucci's magnum opus for tonight. Starring Jean-Louis Trintignant as a mute gunslinger and Klaus Kinski as a sadistic bounty hunter (both superb), it tells a dark tale of misery, greed, injustice and revenge in a small town during a freezing cold winter at the end of the 19th century. Very violent for it's time, it features a great score by Moriccone, socio-political background and probably the bleakest ending ever. One of the greatest westerns of all time, way too overlooked. 8.5/10

  4. Makes sense, as a while ago Brandt said he would like to stay in Leverkusen for at least one more season as he felt it was a bit too early to move to Bayern. With Ribery and Robben hanging the boots soon, this is a great signing. One of my favourite young players in the league.
  5. Audi quit WEC mostly because of the whole Dieselgate, didn't they?
  6. Toyota's complete breakdown was absolutely brilliant Corvette v Aston Martin dramatic battle for the 1st in GTE Pro until the very end was the most exciting part of the whole race though, really didn't think Chevrolet would let it slip away and they managed to fuck it up completely, lucky to finish at all.
  7. Werder v Bayern U17 final is currently live on Sport1.
  8. I haven't seen it, will give it a go now. Cheers!
  9. Me too, started on Sunday, hehe. Getting ready for the weekend!
  10. You're never too old to have your mother bake you a cake!!!!!
  11. Ocon DOTD surely? He's been brilliant so far.
  12. Gave up on American Gods after three episodes, it's just too crazy and in my opinion, doesn't do justice to the book... Ian McShane as Wednesday is brilliant though, as is Pablo Schreiber's portrayal of Mad Sweeney/Leprechaun. Starting Le Mans: Racing is Everything now, new docuseries, just enough time to get hyped for 24 hours of Le Mans next weekend, hehe. Just watched the latest episode of The Son, easily one of the best shows currently on TV for me, @Viva la FCB you have to check it out if you haven't yet!!!
  13. You might have a point there, compared to other popular modern series like Twilight or 50 Shades, Harry Potter is practically a literary masterpiece
  14. I'd only ever post such a thing in the guilty pleasures thread.
  15. Haha, I'm not a fan of Moby Dick myself, it's a tough read... My personal genre favourites are definitely Jules Verne's The Adventures of Captain Hatteras, Jack London's The Sea Wolf and Rafael Sabatini's Captain Blood.
  16. I love historical fiction and sea novels in particular (although more nautical adventures like Jules Verne), so I've been enjoying this so far There's a lot of investment in nautical detail though, so it can get a bit exhausting sometimes due to all the terminology, descriptions of the ships, maneuvers, etc.
  17. Yes, if you mean Master and Commander This is the 4th book in the same series.
  18. Started Patrick O'Brian's The Mauritius Command today, a part of historical naval fiction series set during the Napoleonic Wars.
  19. His ankle injury could have been one of the reasons, I suppose. He played the last matches of the season with torn ligaments, maybe now he needs time to let it heal properly? Otherwise, no idea, he deserves to be in that squad.
  20. It's a topic that I've always been extremely interested in and I try to follow the latest developments as best as I can. I find the idea of designing machines that are able to think, learn and perceive extremely fascinating, not to mention the somewhat sci-fi idea of self-awareness. I think AI has a lot of potential to improve our lives, especially when it comes to health and medicine, space exploration, science and industry, as they are cost-effective, can operate in pretty much any conditions and achieve greater precision and accuracy with low chances of error compared to humans. At the same time, it obviously has downsides as if machines are preferred over actual humans by employees, we will have a bigger problem of unemployment and job security than any time in history, so there's definitely a risk of social problems that would arise as a result. My biggest worry is probably the growing dependency on machines in general, resulting in diminishing mental and cognitive abilities of humans in a long-term. There's also huge concerns of misuse of AI in general.
  21. Oh absolutely; I never read anything of Scalzi before, and I think this is actually the first part of the Interdependency series anyway!
  22. It's brilliant! I'm not a big e-book reader as I hate not having a proper book in my hands, but I couldn't put it down. Extremely well written, well developed characters, good story. Definitely one of the best modern sci-fi books!
