  1. Technically, he was talking about the leagues there, so cup matches don't count
  2. I mean, it's all about preferences, and it's totally ok. The annoying thing is where people start a dick measuring contest about "which league is the best". How do you even measure that, objectively? Literally impossible.
  3. Just read that Reus said he likes to watch the Premier League or La Liga when it is FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid or Manchester United vs Manchester City. So he watches a total of 4 matches a season?
  4. In terms of new breakthroughs, yeah, possibly. But when you think about it, physics played a key role in understanding the principles of electromagnetism, thermodynamics, mechanics, light, etc. and then that knowledge was used for countless things and improvements in our daily lives like electricity, transportation & aviation, optics & imaging, means of communication, advances in medical technology, and so on. But then again, it's what I meant in my previous post - most of the inventions, discoveries and breakthroughs that have had a huge impact on our lives were usually a result of interdsciplinary knowledge and discoveries. Even your own example, semiconductors - you need the knowledge of both physics and chemistry to invent and manufacture it. Materials Science, in general, is a field where physics and chemistry are inseparable.
  5. When you say "most beneficial to humans in their day to day life", what exactly do you mean? Based on your last sentence, I assume that you're asking people's opinions on which field of science has brought the most progress and improvements to our daily lives, making it as comfortable as possible? If that's the case, I don't think you can really answer that because all branches of science are interconnected, and pretty much all of the man-made things in our lives are applications of scientific knowledge from different fields combined together, one way or the other. But I'd actually like to give a shoutout to engineering, as without it, scientific knowledge would be "just" knowledge without actual practical application.

Drought is not nice, but this is so cool!
  7. It's good. It's not normally something I watch, but my dad watched it all twice already and so I involuntarily caught most of it, too good dialogues, good action. Great soundtrack.
  8. All this talk about Wild West books got me doing some research and I just found out that Die Söhne der Großen Bärin book series by Liselotte Welskopf-Henrich actually contained 6 novels, whereas I only read three and didn't even know the other three existed! Looking for them online now, that will definitely be my next read
  9. I've been a bookworm ever since I started reading at 3 years old, and fortunately happened to grow up in a country and family where reading books was extremely encouraged. We had plenty of public libraries, bookstores on every corner, books were extremely cheap, too. Such good memories.
  10. I've read every single Western novel written by Karl May, was obsessed with them as a kid searched for them in libraries, bookstores and flea markets, and spent my school lunch money on them haha. Now, I have over 80 novels and a Gesammelte Werke digital edition which contains 300 titles (books and short stories). So yeah... If they cancel him and his books, I'm going to riot
  11. https://www.welt.de/kultur/literarischewelt/article240604643/Rassismus-Kritik-Ravensburger-liefert-Winnetou-Kinderbuecher-nicht-mehr-aus.html WTF is this nonsense???
  12. Bought the whole Jack Reacher collection for my dad today. Well, not all of it, as only 24 books are translated into German so far, but I reckon that will keep him occupied for a while
  13. These look amazing... Who's the artist?

Hope it bit his head off.

  16. I read it about 20 years ago, and frankly, I don't remember much of the plot, but I recall liking it. Not as much as Midnight's Children, although quite honestly, I don't remember much of it either... Maybe my Alzheimer's is kicking in already. Which would be a bit shit, but I'm quite looking forward to forgetting and then re-reading my favourite books and rewatching my favourite movies and TV shows though. There's always a silver lining
  17. Sorry for bringing the old post up, but I found it amusing that 50 years later, the Academy has now decided to apologise to Sacheen Littlefeather for the treatment she received back then.
  18. How does she dare to have fun and be a normal person with private life and a decent work-life balance!
  19. SLS rocket with Orion spacecraft has succesfully arrived to the launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center ahead of the first Artemis-I mission launch attempt. We have three potential launch windows as of now: August 29, 14:33 CET September 2, 18:48 CET September 5, 23:12 CET So it's less than 12 days to go to the first launch opportunity! So excited about it; I want everything to go well so that we get to see people back to the Moon as soon as possible!
  20. Finally, new engine regulations approved. Expect Porsche and Audi news any time now.
  21. Season 2 of Reservation Dogs, love it. Deals with serious topics through a dark humour lens. Kinda reminds me of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
  22. Salman Rushdie has been stabbed on stage as he was about to give a lecture in New York.
