  1. There's the Cross of Lorraine on the Oreo cookies
  2. That's true, but to be fair to them, the holding Wilsdorf Foundation has been spending tons of money on both local and international charities, environmental and social causes, education as well as culture and infrastructure throughout the years. At the same time, they are also more secretive than the Knights Templars though, so who knows what they are up to
  3. 115000€ still sounds like a bit of an overkill
  4. So it looks like Porsche will not be solely an engine supplier, they are reportedly taking over 50% of Red Bull Racing https://www.motorsport-total.com/formel-1/news/leak-durch-kartellbehoerde-porsche-uebernimmt-50-prozent-von-red-bull-22072708?utm_source=FB-CN&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=fbcn-n-313171_-_erster-offizieller-hinweis-porsche-uebernimmt-50-prozent-von-red-bull
  5. Myanmar junta has executed four democracy activists/political prisoners by hanging. Ko Jimmy, 53, a veteran of the 1988 pro-democracy uprising, Ko Phyo Zeya Thaw, 41, a former hip hop star and National League for Democracy MP, as well as two others (Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw). Their families have been refused access to their bodies for funeral. https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/burma/black-day-for-myanmar-as-nation-mourns-executed-democracy-heroes.html
  6. Marco Friedl is the new captain, Veljkovic the new vice-captain.
  7. Hope he loses his house over that bet Also, this bit: "Let’s see, I mean, as a fan, of course, we want to see things heating up a little bit more, but I’m sure we’ll get that.". Oh really? The majority of fans just wants to see proper racing and hard but fair battles on track, not some interpersonal drama crap that's good for his youtube channel.
  8. So BMW is now charging monthly subscription to remove software block and activate front seat heating as if planned obsolescence wasn't enough, now we're also getting subscription models and microtransactions for things that are already built-in by default in the car you already paid for. Welcome to the future. What's next, monthly subscription to be able to use the breaks?... Although that wouldn't even be surprising; Boeing have been selling certain safety features on their planes as extra add-ons for quite a while already.
  9. The signed jersey will be worth much more in the future, just keep it and profit massively in 20 years time... And yeah, how the fuck did he spend 400€ on a 100km trip anyway? Did he drive there in a Bugatti Veyron? Sounds like a 15 minutes of fame kind of story.
  10. Finally started reading The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow. Only about 100 pages in so far, but can already say that it's a very fascinating and provocative revision of the history of humanity. Very impressive list of citations and referenced research papers. I will wait until I finish it all to form an opinion, but there are already so many interesting pieces of historical information that I was completely unaware of!
  11. It seems that the first batch of data might have already revealed the earliest known galaxy in the visible universe! Another cool discovery from the early data was finding out that one of the observed exoplanets might have clouds made of sand! https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2022/07/james-webb-space-telescope-charts-exoplanets/670568/
  12. Good to hear from you Truls! Similarly to you, I lost most of my interest in football in recent years. Still watch Werder regularly and then a few occasional games in lower leagues or Austria sometimes, but have absolutely no interest in European (whether it's other top leagues or European competitions) or international football anymore. If anything, Werder playing in the 2. Bundesliga last season actually rekindled my passion a bit, as it was a much more honest, pur, raw competition (an exciting championship battle really helped, too). I will try to watch more football this season again, especially lower leagues.
  13. I quit after 20 minutes or so... Might give it another go, but I really struggled with the beginning of the first episode.
  14. Good news: Marco Richter underwent a successful surgery, and while the tumor turned out to be malignant, it was detected at a such an early stage that he will not need chemotherapy and will be able to return to playing football soon Now hope the same for Haller, too! (or even better, a benign tumor).
  15. Heard this argument a million times before, and it's still wrong anyway, not the point and not the place for that kind of discussion... But if you decide to use a VPN for torrenting, make sure you do it properly. Connect to the VPN before you start the torrent, and make sure you terminate the torrent once it's finished before you disconnect from the VPN again. Don't change VPN servers while the torrent is downloading to avoid an IP leak. If the VPN provider has a kill-switch, use it.
  16. Tbh, I think it's a good idea to use VPN in general if you care about data privacy. But anyway, there are good, reliable VPNs like Mullvad which costs only 5€ a month and it doesn't auto-renew (so it simply expires and you don't need to cancel).
  17. So Füllkrug not only signed a contract extension for 3 more years, but also agreed to lower his wages by 30%. According to him, he's not the only player in the club to do that, either. Good to hear stuff like that. https://www.deichstube.de/news/werder-bremen-niclas-fuellkrug-ueber-gehalt-neuer-vertrag-den-tod-musste-ich-sterben-geld-verzicht-bundesliga-zr-91676732.html#idAnchComments
  18. @MUFC you should watch Dark Winds, I think you'd like it.
