Eco Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 So tomorrow begins the 2020 Candidates Tournament, which will determine who will play Magnus Carlson for the World Title. Location is in Yekterinburg, Russia and will last from March 15- April 5 PLAYERS Fabiano Carunan (USA) 2842 Liren Ding (CHN) 2805 Alexander Grischuck (RUS) 2777 Ian Nepomniachtchi (RUS) 2774 Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) 2767 Anish Giri (NED) 2763 Hao Wang (CHN) 2762 Kirill Alekseenko (RUS) 2698 SCHEDULE HOW @Stan AND I WILL WATCH Chess.com will be broadcasting live - https://www.chess.com/article/view/fide-candidates-tournament-2020#who
Eco Posted March 16, 2020 Author Posted March 16, 2020 I would certainly love to see Fabiano win this again, and get his chance at Magnus (again). Last years was such an epic battle between them. If he isn't going to win, I'd love to see either MVL, Anish, or Nepo. The first two are very exciting to watch, and Nepo is one of the most talented chess players in the world, but has admitted that he has many hobbies outside of chess which might have hampered him from being more of a contender for Magnus.
Administrator Stan Posted March 16, 2020 Administrator Posted March 16, 2020 I'd rather go as blind as a bat from the next strain of Coronavirus than watch this.
Eco Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 We are getting down to the end of round 1, as of right now, no one appears to have a massive advantage. Deng is looking good against Wang..but that is the only match thus far that is showing any advantage to one player.
Eco Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 Wow - Ian has now got the full advantage against Anish, and it up a queen.
Eco Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 Sorry @Stan - a bit delayed with updating you on today's events. The #3 player in the world has started off losing BOTH matches and tomorrow faces off against #2 player in the world. TODAY'S RESULTS STANDINGS AFTER DAY 2

Eco Posted March 21, 2020 Author Posted March 21, 2020 Looks like 4 draws today. Alright agreed upon is MVL and Grischuk where MVL absolutely messed up his sure win... Ding and Giri have agreed to the draw.
Eco Posted March 21, 2020 Author Posted March 21, 2020 And great game by Nepo, who had been under pressure from the #2 player in the world.
Eco Posted March 21, 2020 Author Posted March 21, 2020 Hao and Alekseenko have also agreed to a draw. Certainly Cauana and Nepo will as well.
Eco Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 Absolutely fucking yes! After a round full of draws yesterday, today's results ended with Nepo getting a win against Wang in a great match, making him the clear #1. Here are today's results. Standings after today's Round
Eco Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 Tomorrrow's Matches -> If Nepo can win tomorrow that would be massive, and as White, he has a good chance. Crazy that tomorrow's match ups all have the higher rated player as BLACK.
Eco Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Nepo is absolutey abusing Liren DIng at the moment. Crazy as Ding was the overall favorite to win and play Magnus, but he has had such a poor start to the tournament and is really struggling against Ian. Wang is also looking to be in a good spot against MVL, but nothing as decisive, and then the other 2 matches are level.
Administrator Stan Posted March 23, 2020 Administrator Posted March 23, 2020 All of these games are so end-to-end I can't keep up. Great entertainment.
Eco Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Nepo has defeated Ding Liren...absolutely fantastic as this will increase his lead.
Eco Posted March 24, 2020 Author Posted March 24, 2020 And @Stan's pick scores a massive win today in a game that lasted....7 hours, with Anish defeating the lowest ranked player in the tournament (Alekseenko). Today's Results Standings After Today Round 7 Match ups
