Dave Posted July 10 Author Posted July 10 No wonder Harris and Blitzer keep siding with Parish over Textor. These fees are so mental i reckon he'd have paid a fee to Forest for Hennessey. Quote

Dave Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 Oliver Glasner with a little dig at all our players that got runners up medals this summer. Clearly second place will not be good enough this season. Quote

Dave Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 I'd love it if Palace could go one month, just one month, without reminding me that the people involved in the club bear no resemblance to the club I supported in my teenage years. From the sponsor of the illegal Vietnamese gambling firm, to the signing of Ismalia Sarr, to playing music over the remembrance Sunday service, to not even acknowledging the Croydon Tram Crash when we had a game on the anniversary, to now our captain deciding it was a great time to remind everybody he's a Christian in a snide, underhanded way of communicating something very harmful. To think i wouldn't encourage my son to support Palace would have been unthinkable a couple of years, but now he's got his Inter Miami hipster kit and he's off to find his own team. This team doesn't represent anything that I cared about anymore. Quote

This team doesn't represent anything that I cared about anymore. I think it's appalling for a London club to not respect it's community roots. All football clubs are meant to represent their communities. As more and more money pours into the sport and these communities become less important to the clubs and their owners... it's no surprise they start isolating fans like what you're describing. Very sad. I think it's happening at almost every level in football, at least it feels like it with people around my age that I know. Just a general tuning out of football because of a feeling that their club has been leaving them more and more. I doubt it changes any time soon, really. I also think it's a bit fucked of using Jesus towards being hateful towards gay people. Dunno, but it just doesn't seem a very turn the other cheek sort of thing to do. Quote
Dave Posted December 7 Author Posted December 7 The whole thing makes me sad to be honest. In the last 10 years it feels like either the purpose of this campaign has been lost, or people have become more dense around the matter, or a combination of both. It is a shame that Marc (and others) mis understand the rainbow laces campaign. It's not something that goes against religious beliefs. It's a symbol of wanting those communities to not be discriminated against. The campaign is entirely about rejection of prejudices within football, and an attempt to address a long standing issue of homophobia (and in other cases Racism) within football, which have something of an entrenched history. Its not really about what a 'Footballer' believes, but about encouraging people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bi or Trans to see football as something they can openly enjoy and encourage participation. And that is where I wonder, whatever a person's views, how can you not want others to not be discriminated against. There is no problem for footballers who are Christians, many of them celebrate and gesture to god, or thank god in their interviews and socials - there is no fear. But there are none openly gay Premier League players or coaches. And they do exist. The sport is not as progressive as all these branded campaigns and sponsors would have you believe. What Marc Guehi has done, as far as im concerned, is enabel his view to become the story, when it has nothing really to contribute. It eclipsed the initial point in the first place. The timing is no coincidence and it's not a sound argument to say "people are entitled to beliefs" - because thinking other people aren't equal based on age, race, sexuality, gender...is weird. Its not a belief. It's discrimination. Quote
