Denis Cheryshev - Russian Midfielder Goes on Loan to Valencia

Recommended Posts

Russia World Cup star Denis Cheryshev could be leaving Villarreal this summer, according to Marca.

The 27-year-old was one of the surprise success stories during the hosts' tournament, scoring four goals as Russia reached the quarter-finals.

The attacking midfielder has only just returned to training with the Spanish club but could be heading for the exit door with Everton reportedly keen to bring him to Goodison Park.

Uuuhhh this is either a lazy link from some publication or a weird move from us. If we get Mina and Cheryshev it smacks of signing players based on a World Cup.

Trust me mate, Cheryshev isn't a World Cup wonder!  He's a very good player, a Real Madrid academy product who's more Spanish than Russian.  Infact Russian is his second language.

To be fair, he hasn't been as great as I expected him to be since moving back to Villarreal, but has shown a lot of quality in the past. His World Cup could have rejuvenated him as well.

Probably Barça's best ever player in the Copa del Rey without having ever played a game for the club!

This is a very good move from Valencia. Cheryshev has to stay in Spanish football for the sake of his career. It’s what he’s been brought up on and although Russian, he is very very insular in terms of Spanish culture and most people have the impression that he wouldn’t do well abroad.

How did he get on last time he played for Valencia?

Very mixed... That's his problem really and why he didn't make it at Real Madrid. But to show what is thought of his raw talent in general, Real we're always hesitant to sell because they know how well he can play.  Just the typical case of inconsistency and Valencia is a good place to go right now due to the, having good players.
