Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted March 17, 2019 Subscriber Posted March 17, 2019 Not always the most exciting race. Remember when they changed to that endurance layout for a year in 2010? Also reminds me of the scandal around that year when the race was run essentially behind closed doors due to the civil unrest in the country. Force India refused to take part in one of the practice sessions because a car full of their pit crew had been stopped and threatened on their way to the circuit. FOM responded by refusing to show Force India's cars during qualifying so that their sponsors didn't get any exposure. Ridiculous. Vettel and Hamilton are the only active drivers now who have won at this track. Bottas should be a threat, has finished in the points every year apart from his first visit, for Williams and Mercedes. He was on pole in 2017 and finished 2nd with the fastest lap last year, 0.7s behind Vettel. Leclerc was 12th here last year. Verstappen has only finished the race in Bahrain once, a 6th place with Toro Rosso in 2016.
MUFC Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 I like this track, followed by China and Baku. We have now have 3 tracks where you can overtake, last year was really good. Hamilton flying through the field, doing a 3 car overtake, and Bottas chasing Vettel down.
Moderator Tommy Posted March 25, 2019 Moderator Posted March 25, 2019 Hopefully the reports from Maranello that Ferrari found the problem that slowed them down in Melbourne are true. -Grazzie Raggazis hesitantly-
Moderator Tommy Posted March 25, 2019 Moderator Posted March 25, 2019 Just found this: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ferrari-impact-corrections-bahrain-gp/4358361/ -Grazie Raggazis a bit more optimistic-
MUFC Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Sunday is going to be really warm, might force teams into a 2 stop strategy if they have tire issues.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted March 27, 2019 Subscriber Posted March 27, 2019 Really hope Renault have more in the tank than they showed last week. Don't want to see Ricciardo and Hulkenberg wasted on a midfield car and they need to show the big wigs that they're moving closer to the top teams else there's a risk of the plug getting pulled again like it was in 2009.
nudge Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 First practice is well underway. Ferraris the fastest so far. Stroll lost control of his car and went into the wall.
MUFC Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Better idea after Q2 which is in evening conditions more similar to race time, be cooler to. Oh Lewis.
nudge Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Yeah it's just FP1 and it's largely unrepresentative but Ferrari definitely look better than they did in Melbourne so that's encouraging. Stroll kissed the wall and damaged his front wing. Grosjean broke his front wing on a kerb. Hulkenberg and Giovinazzi almost crashed into each other. And Williams' "pace" ist still nowhere to be found. That's about all highlights of FP1
Moderator Tommy Posted March 29, 2019 Moderator Posted March 29, 2019 Lance pushing the car to the limit. Excited to see what he can do with it in Quali and the race.

Mercs started on mediums but later switched to softs and both registered their fastest laps on softs as well. Max ran the whole session on softs too and Gasly started on hards but did his fastest lap on softs as well

Then Ferrari took over from Bahrain speed wise, could be same pattern.
Moderator Tommy Posted March 29, 2019 Moderator Posted March 29, 2019 Hype is back on the menu, boys.
nudge Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Both Sauber cars with cooling issues/hydraulic leak in FP2... RB seemed to be experiencing some problems with power delivery. Kubica is driving the car with the previously damaged floor that has been repaired but not replaced and used parts from the testing because Williams don't have/can't afford new parts... Must be so frustrating.

I do feel for her, but the longer it continues like this, the more damage it brings to the team and its image. Really not sure how they could solve their problems though. Appoint someone else? Would hardly make any difference considering they're falling apart and struggling financially. Sell the team? It would be sad to see another legendary name go. But at this point they are really making a caricature of themselves.

Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted March 29, 2019 Subscriber Posted March 29, 2019 Plenty of sand in that desert to go in Merc's bags. Not getting my hopes up, apart from hoping that Valtteri beats Lewis again.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted March 30, 2019 Subscriber Posted March 30, 2019 I know you've got to be careful with practice times but it's not often you see gaps like those Ferrari have had in hand this weekend in all three sessions without it translating into a qualifying advantage as well.
