You say you don't care about the 18+ months before, but the reality is that period is still important as you would have amortised transfer fees and still paid those players wages. How much money was wasted 18+ months prior on the likes of Gbamin, Delph, Iwobu, Tosun, Keane, Gomes, Kean, Klaasen, Walcott, Bolasie etc? I dont think you can have any gripe you have been docked points when you've drifted closer and closer to the sun every year and eventually got burnt. I got a speeding ticket for going 60 in a temporary speed zone of 50 at 5am on an empty motorway where the roads are usually 70. There was no need for the temporary speed zone and the rule was stupid but I still paid the fine because that's the rules. Just because you don't agree with a rule doesn't mean you should be allowed to ignore it. Even more so to gain an advantage over others that are able to be succesful by abiding by the rules. Over time these rules will probably change but until a better solution is agreed teams need to play by the current rules.

In hindsight, the PL should have let the EFL discipline Leicester City last season when they offered to. There's visible improvement since Trevor Birch has taken over. The fact Leicester City have managed to wrangle out on a technicality which everybody thought was a far stretch is really concerning and sends out the message that there is no deterrent for breaching these rules. Sadly, nobody seems to respect Richard Masterts and this verdict isn't going to do his standing any favours. It felt like most AEW pay per views in the sense that you knew everybody would perform and the best way to enjoy it was to forget how they got there. A much better second half from Palace yesterday. It's frustrating that Parish and Dougie treat August as a pre season period but there's good signs for the future. I wouldnt be adverse to them doing this for the FA Cup now they've scrapped replays. Youd imagine the revenue a Cambridge would get for playing Manchester United on BBC would far supersede a replay against a Stoke. The chances of a famous upset like what Bradford did a decade ago now would be multiplied too.

It seems like good succession planning at face value. Not the best with his feet but we all saw at the Euro's how good his shot stopping is and he should be good to watch in the Premier League.

He's not been the same since his injury, so I wouldn't have the expectations of seeing the same player that was excellent just before and during the covid era. Which given the fee I wouldn't expect any of you to have anyway. Hopefully he remains injury free and you get a good impact player.

I get why he wants to join us. With Kane's form seemingly dipping since April and hardly being a spring chicken there is an opening for an English striker to really make a statement over the next two seasons for the England squad. He probably looks at the way we've developed players as the ideal catapult for him. As for the team, well two wing backs, two center backs and two attacking midfielders are far more urgent position that need filling. I dont know if competition would benefit Mateta either who seems to thrive on confidence. It's one of those moves that feels like we will say in three or four years was a good buy but the start will have a "whats the point" vibe about it. As we've seen with Dean Henderson.

In light of the developments with John Textor this week I did some digging on his other clubs, and he's drifted from "his hearts in the right place" to "he's too erratic to own a football club" for me. He's put the whole Lyon team up for sale as he needs to raise 100m euros to appease FFP. He's spent over 100m euros on players this summer (about 50m on Forest backup players to help them hit PSR!?!). I know a lot of this will be amortised, but it's an odd approach to take. He's also facing a six year ban from Brazillian football after making allegations of corruption. Kieran Maguire recently compared him running Everton to that of Cellino running Leeds United. There's a lot of red flags here.
