I think so too. His age was the major issue when he was first elected (which is a bit funny because Trump is older than that now). He should have stuck to doing 1 term and having a primary. Looking at the numbers, seems like democrats not truly being energized by a candidate hurt them. Republican voters always fall in line, but Democrat voters tend to need some love for the candidate to turn up. Letting voters have a say in the candidate probably would have helped.

In Deerborn Trump won overwhelmingly, then Stein then Harris. I sincerely hope they end up happy with the US’s Middle East policy under Trump. Maybe they’ll get to visit that beachfront property in Gaza once the Israelis are done with it.

Think those people are in for a surprise when they find out how close Trump and Netanyahu are lol

Republican sweep it looks like

They're all shit, but one is objectively less shit than the other. America's got a fucked up and (imho) stupid political system - it's not particularly democratic and the places with the highest populations get their votes watered down on a national level. But if they've got a choice between two shit choices, and one is objectively less shit than the other... it makes sense for people to want the objectively less shit option. Especially when the US is a superpower and its actions cause a ripple effect around the world. Trump was objectively bad for the western world. And he wasn't great for the Middle East either - he needlessly fanned flames across the region when he declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel, getting absolutely nothing in return for it. Him tearing up anuclear deal was a huge negative for the region and for people around the world who have any hopes of ending nuclear proliferation (although I think Russia's invasion of Ukraine throws that out the window tbh). In effect, it encouraged a government that has no love for the west and basically no trust in the west to pull back from any attempts at diplomacy, pushed them to ideological hardlines, and had them push their proxies to put the region into chaos for over a year. The US isn't a bubble isolated from the rest of the world. All the big world powers are interfering with one another in hopes of coming out on top in a game of zero-sum capitalism. Someone like Trump in power just pushes instability - not just in the US, but all over the world. For a more stable world, Trumpism needs to die in the US and this far right push that seems to have traction in virtually every western country needs to be taken very seriously because Trump, like Brexit, shows there are very real and serious consequences to far right populist rhetoric. Hopefully it's not like the last US presidential election where it takes days for them to finally figure out who's won.

I think the hardest thing for him, at most clubs in England... not just United, would be getting that 3 at the back system working the same way it does for his Sporting side. I don't really think the current United backline is really suited for it at all - De Ligt and Maguire imo are just not those kind of CBs. So does he come in and be pragmatic this season and only impose a bit of his philosophy this season and fully transition over to his 3 at the back next season? Does he just say "fuck it" and try to force square pegs into round holes and hope for the best, with an eye on trying to get as much of the squad as used to his system as possible? Honestly, United need such a big reset all over the pitch... I think it does make sense to just start imposing his philosophy now and expect to have to wheel and deal in the January to try to get their rebuild kickstarted. But that's easier said than done in a results driven industry where a bad run could put him under horrific pressure. But I think that's really the biggest risk with them going with him. His system is just so different from how United are currently built. You can probably say that of Ten Hag too though lol... even though he spent a huge amount of money and still couldn't work out how to get United looking anything like his old Ajax side. But I remember someone on here shared some football nerd's YouTube video where they just spew off bullshit about how the new manager might make the new side look when he was linked with us. And while that football nerd seemed to think "oh this translates so well to this squad" my initial thought was "this is an entirely different defensive setup to what we usually see at Liverpool" - and imo our backline is better suited for Amorim's system than Man Utd's is. So if I were a United fan hoping he gets off to a strong start... I think I'd be pretty worried about how he goes about setting up his backline in those early days. But I think long term, they'd be better off letting him try to see what the current squad can do in the type of system he wants to play. What do they have to lose? This season where they've had a miserable start? Their/his best case scenario is these players look better in his strange system than I'd have expected and their impending deadwood clear out may have less players than I would have thought. And their worst case scenario is... they'll need a massive clear out to get the system to work. I think that's the case regardless. United have some players with a lot of potential, but also have a lot of overpaid wasters that need to be cleared out so players that will fit Amorim's vision can be brought in.

I wonder why. At least he can leave with his head held up high knowing he came in and left the club in a better place than before he had the job. I think he and Arteta have done a great job rebuilding Arsenal into being a competitor again. Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill imo.

The discord's got a lot more activity tbh

I think they’re a defense first side, but I think they’re impressive in playing this way in the modern era while also being able to play some pretty attacking football despite the more defensive style. He’s not a football terrorist like Simeone or Mourinho imo Aside from where they are in the table, I think performance wise we can say that they’re the best side we’ve been up against this season. I think there’s no question about that. And it was a big test & I think a point away at this Arsenal is not a bad result.

2 soldiers reported dead - seems to be more of a show than any serious attack, similar to Iran’s previous 2 attacks on Israel
-
Syrian reports suggest the only targets have been military targets. Which is honestly pretty restrained since they tried to kill Netanyahu. Scary times if you’ve got family in the country being attacked.

AJE spent a lot of money bringing in good journalists who are well respected and quality reporters and research staffers - I’m pretty sure this was done to bolster AJE’s reputation and credibility. Their Arab language reporting is supposed to be much different to AJE’s coverage though. And AJE’s Middle Eastern coverage is blatantly whatever Qatar’s perspective is. Trusting it for honest reporting in the Middle East is akin to trusting RT for news on the Russia-Ukraine war or PressTV covering any big issue in the US.

Al Jazeera’s been caught lying several times - they’re great for news outside the Middle East, but their journalism within the region is basically just Qatari Fox News.
-
You literally quote Al Jazeera in here all the time and that's Qatar state media... Qatar and Iran being the 2 financiers of Hamas - you can't really take Hamas tied sources or IDF sources as accurate... but you also can't just flatly dismiss one side while taking everything the other side says as truth. I've also not run with the both sides are the same angle either. Israel has been committing human rights abuses on Palestinians since 1947. Hamas has been committing human rights abuses on Palestinians since 2006 - while also doing it's best to kill Israelis every once in a while... mostly as an attempt to invite death to Gaza's doorstep so they can try to milk it for support. Then Gazans keep suffering and their leadership enjoys good lives when they're not hiding amongst the hostages they've taken. They're similar in that they're both massive cunts. They're not similar in that the scale - what Israel's done is worse and Israel are in the position of power... so if anyone's going to break the cycle of violence it's them. The majority of people truly don't give a fuck. Almost nobody likes seeing dead kids in the news constantly, just like almost nobody liked seeing bodies paraded after October 7th... but if most people gave a fuck, there'd be a hell of a lot more impetus on western governments to pressure Israel to stop.

Reports now of Hamas shooting Gazan civilians who try to evacuate Jabaliya. Unbelievable what the people caught in between Hamas and the IDF have to put up with.
