  1. Oh he did almost as soon as the bus was out I saw it on tv and was surprised as I thought that was an own goal.
  2. Interesting I saw an interesting program earlier in the year where they were saying the real anti-Semites were Himmler and Goebbels not Hitler. There have never been any documents showing Hitler was aware of the camps now these could have been destroyed or maybe raise another question. Of course none of this exonerates him he still invaded neutral countries and resulting in the deaths of many peoples especially Slavs and Russians as well as any political enemies.
  3. The links go for instead the £350m a week which is over £12bn annually https://www.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-says-his-350-million-a-week-brexit-claim-was-an-underestimate-2018-1?r=US&IR=T Here is another and none mention Farage it is just Bojo. https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/boris-johnson-leave-campaigns-350m-a-week-claim-was-gross-underestimate Lastly the beacon for left leaning voters https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jan/15/leave-campaigns-350m-claim-was-too-low-says-boris-johnson
  4. The only thing I can remember Farage being criticised for was scaremongering over the EU enlarging to include Turkey claiming we would get huge immigration from Turkey. On this point of Turkey both Switzerland Austria were unhappy about this too. I can't remember lies from Farage although do agree outside of UKIP he was very unpopular.
  5. He did say it during the campaign, he said Boris had it wrong with his Leave Bus EU cost, he said Boris had not allowed for the rebate meaning it was £9bn. I recall Andrew Neil's politics show agreeing Farage was right so why didn't Boris change the slogan on his Leave bus?
  6. For an idiot he lasted quite well. In fact he called Boris out for having misleading figures on the Leave Bus. I corrected a Brazilian lady on fb over Farage, she said Farage claimed we would get £12bn savings for the NHS and I said, 'No that was Boris not Farage' I really hope Bojo does not win, he is a liability and might not even last until the next GE.
  7. Russia has never given it's best missile defence system to Syria just a lower model. Israeli pilots are clever for sure yet notice they have not attacked Hezbollah in Lebanon for a good reason, it would quickly become a missile war. Russia is stretched at the moment in Ukraine though their air force remains a threat.
  8. The news says a new leader appointed by next Friday, bizarre. I can't believe anyone is suggesting Johnson runs again he would be a liability.
  9. Ukraine is having some success on the ground though have sustained serious infrastructure in their bigger cities. I notice since the weekend neither Biden or Blinken have commented on Ukraine yet have on Truss and China. I'm guessing something big has happened in the background still waiting to come out in the news. The silence is deafening from Biden.
  10. No I agree yet if it went badly wrong she could be forced to go, don't think it was that bad so she survives for the moment. Next big hurdle will be the budget change by Hunt scheduled for the 31st October. In saying the above there could still be a change if enough overnight go to Brady yet more change becomes like musical chairs which is why I think she will stay. @RandoEFC Yes the odds are for a change at the next election.
  11. If Truss survives PMQs today she has a chance of lasting until the next election with the support of Hunt. If she folds badly at PMQs I suspect Sunak as he was 2nd in the party contest to be ushered in. I don't think the country would allow them another wait and see party contest.
  12. Credit to Kepa Arrizabalaga after being kept out by Mendy really made some vital saves against Villa.
  13. Would have been nice to have seen a bit more with a walk through as looked interesting.
  14. For me Bojo had the plan to reduce the debt by raising national insurance and corporation tax. The markets like us reducing the debt to GDP ratio, Truss with the backing of the majority of the 150,000 members has decided she has the perfect recipe for growth and we can pay less tax. It is not surprising the markets do not like it. 150k members are not the same as Middle England either she wises up or probably a hung parliament next time around.
  15. Seeing Salah back on the scoresheet makes Sunday against City a little more interesting.
  16. Strikes are a good start for raising the stakes. Revolutions normally gather pace when police ranks join the protests............
  17. Yes an unpleasant situation in Iran. You would hope the more progressive side wins in this dispute though religious autocracies are something else.
  18. Nice one. Interesting as an asylum seeker or leaving on family grounds? Did wearing the Hajib bother her?
  19. When I saw the line-up thought we would struggle though of course I forgot Watford had sacked their manager. Some neat play and goals will we sustain it?
  20. I would not be surprised if this goes nuclear, in game of thrones, 'Winter is coming' in real life perhaps 'Nukes are coming'. Russia thinks it is under attack, it has survived the economic hit so far yet are probably shocked to see the Ukrainian army still having some success and then there are those odd assassinations and explosion in their own territory. Biden has joked or dared Russia suggesting their might be a nuclear event. I'm just wondering like they did initially with the large invasion perhaps they might consider a large first strike and I don't think it will be Ukraine either. A very dangerous time. since the cold war serious discussion is kept away from the mainstream as people stop buying things.
  21. Just looked back on national debt, The year before COV-ID in 2018 the debt ratio was 85% of GDP now it is 94% of GDP, this is why the markets are concerned about Trust's borrowing for things like fuel subsidies. To give a comparison Greek debt is about 188% over GDP and Italy about 134% over. Greece has been kept afloat by the ECB buying its bonds to keep the economy afloat, no investors will buy Greek debt. It remains to be seen whether Italy will be able to avoid a similar fate.
  22. Colonialism was complicated. Although it could be a way of getting resources back to the colonising nation cheaply it could also be about having a strategic position to stop other hostile forces. Another consideration on colonisation was getting the colonised country to buy the colonisers manufactured products as their own producers go out of business. Here is another I gleaned from Newsnight tv program about a decade ago. the EU were giving loans to African nations to produce metal ores. The Africans wanted help to changes the ores into manufactured products. The EU refused to give loans to do that. It will be interesting to see if China give the means of production to African nations. I suspect not.
  23. I don't think the Green Party are credible though seem to have good intentions. With an official population of 65m and unofficially probably 75m we can't feed ourselves and do not have enough fuel. So we cosy up to the US and provide canon fodder once in a while to support their adventures while they provide muscle in historic sites of interest we probably could not if it came to an emergency. Recently a senior Chinese general made a comment aimed at the Australians, remember you are just colonial settlers from a time when European power was strong.
  24. It seems the Tory party are in danger of imploding. the 150,000 Tory members have delivered to the nation Truss who is an ideologue though she has backtracked a little due to market reaction to her mini-budget on the 45% tax banding yet all is not well at the Tory Party Conference. Now the markets have calmed a little yet by lowering income tax costing £13bn in lost tax revenue and £8bn expenditure to soften the fuel bill without means the markets might attack again at any time. She is in danger of losing her party, it almost seems like post Thatcher.
  25. I would say it prevents northern Europe being able to quickly get oil or gas from Russia when there is a political solution, northern Europe would still be dependent on dearer US energy they couldn't just turn on the taps. Plenty of time before a new pipe could be put into production for political intrigues to deter northern Europe getting cheaper fuel.
