  1. NASA has chosen 4 Discovery-class mission proposals, and will choose the final two today after evaluating the concept studies in the last 9 months. Some very interesting proposals there... https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-selects-four-possible-missions-to-study-the-secrets-of-the-solar-system/ DAVINCI+ The mission seeks to analyze Venus’ atmosphere to understand how it formed and evolved before determining whether Venus ever had an ocean. The spacecraft will plunge through Venus’ inhospitable atmosphere to precisely measure its composition down to the surface. The instruments are encapsulated within a purpose-built descent sphere to protect them from the intense environment of Venus. The “+” in DAVINCI+ refers to the imaging component of the mission, which includes cameras on the descent sphere and orbiter designed to map surface rock-type. James Garvin of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, is the principal investigator. Goddard would provide project management. Io Volcano Observer (IVO) IVO would explore Jupiter’s moon, Io, to learn how tidal forces shape planetary bodies. Io is heated by the constant crush of Jupiter’s gravity and is the most volcanically active body in the solar system. Little is known about Io’s specific characteristics, such as whether a magma ocean exists in its interior. Using close-in flybys, IVO would assess how magma is generated and erupted on Io. The mission’s results could revolutionize our understanding of the formation and evolution of rocky, terrestrial bodies, as well as icy ocean worlds in our solar system, and extrasolar planets across the universe. Alfred McEwen of the University of Arizona in Tucson is the principal investigator. The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland would provide project management. TRIDENT Trident would explore Triton, a unique and highly active icy moon of Neptune, to understand pathways to habitable worlds at tremendous distances from the Sun. NASA’s Voyager 2 mission showed that Triton has active resurfacing—generating the second youngest surface in the solar system—with the potential for erupting plumes and an atmosphere. Coupled with an ionosphere that can create organic snow and the potential for an interior ocean, Triton is an exciting exploration target to understand how habitable worlds may develop in our solar system and others. Using a single fly-by, Trident would map Triton, characterize active processes, and determine whether the predicted subsurface ocean exists. Louise Prockter of the Lunar and Planetary Institute/Universities Space Research Association in Houston is the principal investigator. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, would provide project management VERITAS (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy) VERITAS would map Venus’ surface to determine the planet’s geologic history and understand why Venus developed so differently than the Earth. Orbiting Venus with a synthetic aperture radar, VERITAS charts surface elevations over nearly the entire planet to create three-dimensional reconstructions of topography and confirm whether processes, such as plate tectonics and volcanism, are still active on Venus. VERITAS would also map infrared emissions from the surface to map Venus’ geology, which is largely unknown. Suzanne Smrekar of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, is the principal investigator. JPL would provide project management. Hopefuly, DAVINCI+ will be one of those given the green light, would love to see a lander on Venus!
  2. We're apparently interested in Marvin Duksch. Would definitely be a very good signing for the 2. Liga, but given that he still has a contract with Hannover until 2022 and his market value is around 2m, I don't think it's very realistic.
  3. Yeah, it normally ticked all boxes, but you know how it is, sometimes it just offputing and you don't even know why Hmmm murder mysteries can be good, even if it's not my prefered genre... Might give it a try if I don't find anything else Oh and yes, I have seen Rome Good series. Thanks for the effort, anyway
  4. Yes, you recommend it to me, and I tried hard to like it, but I didn't Just couldn't stand the main character, so it put me off the series completely...
  5. New manager - check 17 million Euro through SME Bonds - check Glad that both are finally sorted, let's see what happens next in terms of squad planning.
  6. Have you seen the recent ones with the clouds? Mind blowing. Some moving gif images here as well: https://mars.nasa.gov/news/8956/nasas-curiosity-rover-captures-shining-clouds-on-mars/
  7. I need to find a new series to watch, and have completely ran out of ideas Any help, please?... What I like: scifi, mystery, history, western, adventure What I don't particularly like: crime, police procedurals, horror, superheroes, most comedies My most favourite series: Lost, Dark, For All Mankind, The Expanse, M*A*S*H, Timeless, The Mandalorian, Westworld, Raised by Wolves, Deadwood, Person of Interest, Godless, 11.22.63, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica.
  8. Marco Bode, Andreas Hoetzel, Thomas Krohne and Kurt Zech will not run for a position in the Supervisory board again in the next election. Frank Baumann officially confirmed to stay. That's all good and nice, but can we please announce the new manager at last?... Less than two months until the new season starts.
  9. would have not ended well if it wasn't for aeroscreen...
  10. Shaping up nicely... Next module launch in June.
  11. 19 year old Swiss Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier in a very serious condition after a crash in qualifying today He fell and was hit by his own motorcycle and then by at least one of the other riders Airlifted to a hospital, no official updates so far.
  12. Thank you! And no worries, we'll probably end up signing Tayfun Korkut or something, anyway That sounds good, although the inflexibility worries me a bit (in case he's indeed our top candidate). Sounds somewhat like Kohfeldt, who also wanted to play attractive attacking football and then failed miserable after realising that the squad was not really capable of that. I wouldn't say no to Anfang and Dursun though
  13. @londonerlilie what is your opinion on Markus Anfang? He's suddenly being suggested as the top candidate for the job at Bremen by different sources of media, and I'm not sure what to think.
  14. Interesting interviews with Baumann today on the official website and on Deichstube. Main points - new manager, squad planning, goals for the next season. In terms of the new manager, Baumann confirmed that the club had a very long list of names, and after an extensive evaluation process and interviews, we now have three final candidates, and the decision should be announced in the next few days. The manager profile that the club is looking for is mostly about experience working successfully under low financial resources, developing young players, playing attractive but also successful football. He didn't comment on any names, but what I found particularly interesting was the statement that Werder still is an attractive club for managers, and that there were apparently some candidates who were willing to manage us in the 2. Liga despite having options in 1. Bundesliga and other top leagues abroad. Also, Baumann said that we are willing to pay a release fee for the right manager should it be necessary. All this sounds pretty good to me, I hope I will be equally as optimistic once the new manager is announced. According to Deichstube, the three candidates are Leitl, Werner, and Zeidler; but that is nothing official and they also mentioned Breitenreiter and Thioune as potential candidates. Regarding the squad planning - several players in the current squad already said that they would like to stay, some others would prefer to leave. The decision in each individual case will depend on the transfer offers we get. In addition, we are looking to sign several experienced players who know 2. Liga well, and several youth players/players returning from loan are an option, including Johannes Eggestein. Before any transfers (in or out) happen, they want to discuss it with the new manager though, so it will take a while until we see first actions in transfer market this summer. Team should return to training mid-June, with the training clamp in Zillertal planned in early July (only one training camp this summer). Next season goals - not only play for promotion, but also make it happen. Baumann said he is very optimistic that we will have a squad and a manager to reach these goals, and finish the season in the top 3. Despite that, he also acknowledges that the league will be very tough next season. This sounds extremely self-confident and optimistic to me...hope he's right.
  15. Ok, so the Mercedes deal turned out to be pretty disappointing. Only a car partner, paying about 200.000€ a annually. That's about 6 times less than the VW deal previously...
  16. Halfway through it - what a fantastic read! Highly recommended.
  17. The dog seemed to be having fun though
  18. Yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable either, nor would I actually want to watch the game separated from the fellow fans and locked in a private room with a bunch of corporate pricks instead
  19. They actually rent a VIP-lounge in Weserstadion indeed Now I fully expect you to provide tickets for these seats there for our next match against your Fortuna
  20. They are the biggest private employer in the region (Daimler runs a big manufacturing plant in Hemelingen), so I suppose it might have something to do with that? Filbry has been talking about "strategic partnerships" with investors from the region for quite a while now, so I wonder if that's the direction we'll be taking now.
