2020/21 Premier League - Race For Europe

Another eventful game-week:

  • Chelsea erased FA Cup heartache by going in to pole-position with a win over Leicester. All they need to do is now match either Liverpool's or Leicester's result on Sunday.
  • Liverpool did themselves no harm either comfortably beating Burnley. All that's required of them is to match Leicester's result and they finish top 4. They could finish 3rd if they draw and Chelsea don't win.
  • Leicester drop in to EL places for the first time this season after defeat at Chelsea. They need to win and hope one of Chelsea & Liverpool don't. A draw is enough in the very unlikely event that only one of Chelsea or Liverpool lose.
  • West Ham look set to qualify for Europe for the first time since 2015/16; a win at West Brom last night means they now only need a point on the final game to finish 6th.
  • Tottenham losing at home means it's between themselves, Everton & Arsenal for the final European spot (that no-one really wants?). A win and a West Ham loss guarantees 6th. A draw is enough if Everton also draw and Arsenal lose.
  • Everton's beat Wolves at home so they are the best of the rest outside of the top 7; a very unlikely scenario to qualify for the EL is to win, hope West Ham lose and Spurs draw/lose, but also cause an 8-goal swing over West Ham. Maybe 'unlikely' is an understatement...
  • Arsenal picking up form conveniently to still give themselves the best chance of playing in Europe. 4 wins in a row. Europa Conference League is their best option, but still need to win and hope Spurs & Everton to drop points. Or draw, hope Everton lose, and hope Spurs lose by 7+ (we'll try our best)
  • Leeds. Erm, good luck @Lucas? What a season it'll be if you do qualify for Europe. Although the chances are less than slim given you need a 15+ goal swing over Spurs and all the other results to go your way anyway. Again, we'll try our best...

You’re not getting a trophy for it

No one said we were. Quite a run they put together though given all the problems this season has brought. It gives us a crack at next season's competition which is hugely important

Just some jesting mate.

Of course, it’s absolutely vital to get those CL spots as it can effect players signings etc

I still can’t believe we’ve made it despite looking so shit for so long. If you’d told me after that Fulham match we’d finish ahead of Chelsea and Leicester, I’d probably have laughed at you or punched you.

I reckon the fight will be for 4th as the main battle and Chelsea will get it.

I think it will be Chelsea and us that end up getting the 3rd & 4th places.

For top 4, there's almost a depressing inevitability about Chelsea and Liverpool finishing 3rd and 4th after this weekend.

This guy doesn't
