They already got Neuhaus, Kramer and Koné for that position. What happened to him? Benfica is great and all but Didn’t Weigl have huge hype for a bit?Did he just take a different career path? It's a bit of a mixture, on the one hand he left Dortmund because he stagnated a bit and wanted more pitch time, choosing the Portuguese league is an unusual career path after such an experience for a German talent, though. How did he develop at Benfica? @Machado

How did he develop at Benfica? @Machado Weigl's stay here is evidence that a player's performance depends on the game model and it differs from the player's intrinsic quality. Not complaints about his dedication and professionalism, but he did have obvious problems in defensive transitions as he's not the typical number 6 that goes looking for contact, steals the ball and is efficient in man marking. We needed a different player in the position. Asking him to be a Casemiro type of midfielder was a mistake.
Moderator Tommy Posted January 19, 2023 Moderator Share Posted January 19, 2023 Intrigued to see how he'll do. Great job from Roland Virkus once again, IMO. Only let Sommer go when they had his replacement locked in, and they managed to get double of what Bayern initially offered, and re-invested that money in a new, younger, goalkeeper.
