Administrator Stan Posted December 7, 2022 Administrator Share Posted December 7, 2022 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63886642 Quote Belgium playmaker Eden Hazard has retired from international football at the age of 31. Hazard, who is an attacking midfielder or winger, made his Belgium debut in 2008 at the age of 17, and went on to win 126 caps, scoring 33 goals. His decision comes after Belgium were knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages. "A page turns today," said the Real Madrid player. "Thank you for your love [and] for your unparalleled support."
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted December 7, 2022 Subscriber Share Posted December 7, 2022 To think he knocked in 85 goals in his Chelsea hay days and was the bee's knees then moved onto Real and disappeared into the wild blue yonder with injuries and whatnot, how the mighty fall. Real Madrid vs PSG : 2020. Meunier makes a challenge on Hazard and breaks is right fibula. A metal plate was required to be surgically added. It was then and there that ended Hazard's career (performance wise). The injury had long lasting affects and chronic tendonitis issues. He was actually trained to run differently to prevent pain from reoccurring. He then suffered another injury where the metal plate actually had to be removed from the same ankle. With this injury, it led to injuries in other areas considering he had to utilize his body differently to accommodate his ankle. He suffered a combination of muscular injuries as a result, which too became chronic. Add the fact Hazard always had a very poor work ethic in the offseason (puts on lot of weight), its no wonder why he is no where near his peak self. Shame really. Real was supposed to be is dream move but it genuinely ended his career.
Waylander
To be fair to Hazard he has taken all this with humility. I recall him having more surgery after the last surgery did not seem to work. Guess he realises his injuries are not going to improve. I would not be surprised if someday he comes back to SB in a club role either coaching or as an ambassador. Spike
What a player he was to watch. Absolutely genius with his audacity to best defenders and try the risky.
