Is this the last season with the current 32 format ?

Yep, goes to a league phase of 36 teams, with teams seeded in 4 pots of nine.

Well, the surprising result of the evening so far in the Champions League, is Panathinaikos's 1-0 win over French giants Marseille. The Greek side will be chuffed to have defeated such a strong French side.

To be fair, Klaksvik winning against Molde is even more surprising. A Faroeyan team winning at that stage is almost miraculous, in my honest opinion!

Yes, that's very true. It's actually quite surprising how well Faroese football has done in recent years. Well their national team has had some incredible results throughout its history, starting with their historic 1-0 win over Austria in 1990. For a country of only a mere 50,000 people, they have done incredibly well. They only have around 5,000 registered footballers in the Faroe Islands. Nonetheless, they have achieved some very impressive results over the years.

They almost always beat the likes of Malta, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Luxembourg, Gibraltar and Andorra convincingly. But they have also achieved much greater results against much more reputed national teams in competitive competitions. They famously beat Greece home and away in 2014 and 2015 during Euro 2016 qualifiers. They drew with Hungary in 2016 in a World Cup qualifier and they followed that draw with a 2-0 win away to Latvia in Riga. They also drew with Kosovo in 2018. In the past they've also held Scotland to a draw on a couple of occasions and they have done the same to Northern Ireland. All these bigger teams have much bigger populations and a much larger pool of players to choose from. Which makes the results of the Faroe Islands national team, all the more impressive.

Hold your horses Marseille aren't qualified yet : Panathinaikos scored in injury time and the match probably does go to extra time.;)

Oops, saw it was 2-0 and thought it was full time!
