Mad to think he was taken to a World Cup as a kid when you look back on the career he had. A good player and was instrumental at times in keeping Arsenal competitive alongside Van Persie…but you’d think he was a Wayne Rooney type prospect for that decision

Was a good player for us overall but instead of a wide forward or as a sole striker, I always thought he'd have done better playing as one of the two upfront, similar to Owen, but that system seemed to have gone out of fashion.

It seems like only yesterday that everyone was raving about him when he was a 17 year old. He never quite lived up to the hype, but he was nonetheless a good player on his day. His pace was always clearly his most influential asset when playing and once he lost some of his speed, he was never as good as he used to be. I also think that it's quite telling that he went to the 2006 World Cup as a teenager and that he was never selected for another World Cup again for England. Although he did make the England squad for the 2012 Euros that were held in Poland and Ukraine.

I think it's kind of tough on a young player when that sort of hype is put on them.
