First time I heard somebody suggesting Germany were a failed society. Over 50% of our population lives in places they loaned from landlords, not only since yesterday.

I'm talking just getting any sort of place at all rather than specifically outright owning somewhere. To me you should be able to do that without having to make major sacrifice if you're earning an average wage. I'm not saying this is at all likely to be the case but I just think if it isn't then something is wrong.

Renting is more expensive than mortgaging in certain USA markets. My mortgage is less than my coworker’s rent, he just doesn’t have the liquid capital for a down payment.

When I graduated from University, I moved into apartments as I really was just starting out in my career and I didn’t have any Savings at that point. 
 

As I developed my career as a Fashion Designer in the company I am employed at, I was able to save some money, but still needed help from my parents to get my first home in which I live now. 
 

Now that my boyfriend is living with me a we share all the bills that come with owning a home, it is much easier with having two incomes paying for the costs and it is much less on having to rely on my parents unless something big goes wrong within the home.

It is so difficult to get a good Savings as we would like to for a future and eventually get married and have children, but they cost a lot as well.

I think what Dan is getting at is how difficult it is with the stark difference in house prices and stagnant wages/wages not going up so people can afford to get on the housing ladder.
