Administrator Stan Posted January 17 Administrator Share Posted January 17 Quote Wolves are considering a move for Armando Broja, whose future is likely to hinge on whether Chelsea sign a striker this month. Broja will find himself with a decision to make if Mauricio Pochettino brings in another forward. The 22-year-old’s chances of regular football will be lower if the competition for places increases. Broja led the line during Chelsea’s win over Fulham last weekend but had a frustrating game and was substituted in the 66th minute. He has been unable to build momentum since returning from a serious knee injury this season. After scoring the opener in Chelsea’s win over Preston in the FA Cup this month, he was on the bench for the 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final last week. The situation has caught the attention of several clubs. West Ham have long been admirers of Broja, whose contract expires in 2028, and Wolves have added him to their shortlist. Gary O’Neil, the Wolves manager, wants to sign a striker and has looked at a loan deal for West Ham’s Danny Ings. Although Broja has scored twice in 17 appearances this season, his potential was clear when he impressed during a loan spell at Southampton in the 2021-22 campaign. The interest from Wolves is at an exploratory stage and it is unlikely they would be able to pursue a permanent deal for Broja. Their initial preference would be a loan with an option to buy in the summer. Several clubs are monitoring his situation and he has been targeted by Napoli and Milan in the past. Broja is a product of Chelsea’s academy. Selling him would boost their financial fair play position. Money received for academy players goes down as pure profit in FFP terms. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/jan/16/wolves-target-chelseas-armando-broja-as-pochettino-continues-striker-search?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Devil
So strange, this comes off the back of Poch heaping praise on him. Chelsea seem to be willing to sell anything and anyone that has come through their academy now.

Yeah, I was reading about that the other day. Seems it's going to become the norm as long as this FFP is in place.

He's more of an outside forward if anything vs a traditional #9, but he hasn't really impressed. Looks levels below. Coming back from a serious injury so not sure if he'll ever reach what was expected of him (joins the club with CHO and Reuben Loftus-Cheek). Unlike Gallagher, selling Broja wouldn't bother me. Cicero
Fabrizio Romano: “This will be a busy week for Armando Broja and Chelsea. There is historical interest from West Ham and also now Wolves. There could be a movement in the next days. Chelsea have a replacement name in the list - but nothing is closed/advanced” (via @caughtoffside) pic.twitter.com/IKJlOrdwqN

Danny Ings joining you guys hardly sets the pulse racing, especially at this stage at the tail end of his career.

Cicero
Off to Fulham on loan. No buy option. Really don't understand this football club. Why are we heading into the second half of the season with only 1 striker?

OrangeKhrush
This had to be the worst January window of all time in terms of total fee and names moved. Perhaps it is the sign that European clubs need to reassess the market and fix the taxflation and skulping issues plaguing the game.

Teams need to come in line with FFP or the Profit and Sustainability Rules. January usually is a month where it's quieter than summer, though. I heard mark goldbridge saying something about Chelsea needing to raise 100m and some before 30 June or breach FFP, the problem is they have nobody of value left to sell outside of Gallagher and Broja. Back loading debt on amortisation was a stupid strategy and if it does bite them they deserve it. We could see Colwill, James, Gallagher, Broja, Masten, Hall all sold just to get out of financial trouble
