Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 This should be an intriguing match. I am obviously hoping for the draw. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I would have liked to have seen Laszlo Benes start for Slovakia today. Benes despite being a midfielder, was among the leading scorers in the 2 Bundesliga last season and he also had the 2nd most assists in the league. He is an impressive midfielder, but the Slovakia manager has benched him and named the experienced trio of Lobotka, Kucka and Duda in midfield. Skriniar and Vavro form the experienced central defensive partnership, while another veteran Pekarik plays at right-back and Feyenoord's Hancko plays at left-back. The experienced Dubravka of Newcastle United is selected ahead of Fulham's Rodak as goalkeeper for Slovakia. While in attack, Boavista's youngster Bozenik plays as the central striker, flanked by the more experienced Schranz and Haraslin in the attacking wide areas. Belgium have Onana and Mangala as their ball winning midfielders, while de Bruyne is the playmaker, with Doku playing on the right wing and Trossard on the left wing. While up front Lukaku plays as the centre forward. I have to say, I can see Trossard giving the 37 year old Pekarik plenty of problems if he gets one on one with him. Pekarik is still a good player, but he doesn't have the pace that he used to have anymore. Casteels is a reliable goalie for Belgium, while Debast and Faes form a solid defensive partnership in front of him. Fullbacks Castagne and Carrasco will bomb forward to help the attack at any opportunity. Belgium look like a strong team, it will be interesting to see how they perform today. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted June 17 Author Administrator Posted June 17 Lukaku should score. Doku did very well. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Doku goes on a slalom run dribbling past several players, before the ball finds its way to Lukaku in front of goal, whose shot is excellently saved by Dubravka the Slovak keeper. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Slovakia take the lead!! Schranz scores from the rebound after Brozenik's shot was saved by Casteels. Belgium 0-1 Slovakia Quote
Administrator Stan Posted June 17 Author Administrator Posted June 17 Slovakia 1-0 up! Doku's error leads to a Slovakia goal. Quote
Lucas Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) It's all about that front four for Belgium isn't it. Everything else looks a little average. Never been the same defensively since they had prime Vermaelen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld. Edited June 17 by Lucas Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Haraslin has a volley at goal excellently saved by Casteels. Big chance that for Slovakia to score their 2nd goal. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted June 17 Author Administrator Posted June 17 Belgium typically all fart no shit. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Haraslin cuts inside and has a shot from outside the area that goes wide of the far post. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Vavro has a well struck shot from miles out go past the Belgian post. That was a well hit shot. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Lukaku has a shot in the area at the near post well saved by Dubravka. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) Belgium equalise through Lukaku! Lukaku taps the ball home after Onana headed the ball to him in front of goal. But after the VAR review, the goal is disallowed because Lukaku was in an offside position! Edited June 17 by Michael Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Bakayoko comes on for Mangala. Thats an attacking player on for a more defensive one. Belgium desperately looking for that equaliser. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Lukaku has a volley from a tight angle hit the side netting! Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Bakakyoko has a shot at goal cleared off the line by Hancko! Big chance there and a great clearance by Hancko! Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) Interesting that both these teams are managed by an Italian manager. Tedesco is Belgium's manager, while Francesco Calzona is Slovakia's manager. Edited June 17 by Michael Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Strelec and Suslov come on as subs for Bozenik and Haraslin. So they are replacing their forwards with other forwards and brining on fresher legs. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Lobotka was so strong and excellent there in cutting out the attack and winning possession back for Slovakia just outside his own area. Quote
Michael Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Aston Villa's Tielemans comes on for Trossard for Belgium. Quote
